600 Gallon Upgrade Build

I know right. Once the front is covered it's really not going to matter. (Hope he's not monitoring this.)

Covered?...not matter?? Man, you have to display that sexiness!! I don't know about you, but with an awesome sump like that, I'm judging you by how much sexier you can make things down below as much as I know you'll rock it up above. Joking!!

It's your fault really, I thought I had completely forgotten and blocked out Drummereef's sump room since I saw it months ago... and lo and behold, you linked to it for me to envy and had me look at my own sump with disgust. lol

Leroy, things are looking great. Now you need to shoot for TOTM, not ETOTM!!!!! I'm back in full swing of the hobby, got discouraged after a screwup of mine and will be back to bother you about getting things done! Now that you've got the water......

WHERE IS THE SAND?!?!?!?!?!?

that reactor is awesome, i will be watching with great anticipation your experience with Zeovit!

Thanks. With a tank of my size its going to take lots and lots of discipline when the dosing part begins. I lurked on the other forum to see who had the largest tank using ZeoVit and I thought I had the largest one until I saw Thomas Pohl's(I think he created ZeoVit) 523 gallon tank. I have a challenge ahead of me.

I understand where you are coming from and make a valid point. I will clean it up. :headwalls::headwalls::headwalls:

I think if I thought out the interior of the stand better, I probably could have made that happen. Sorry to bring up old stuff and that awesome tank room video.:beer::beer:

Man D it is good to see you again. I blame myself for not following up with you and see how things are going. How is the family and the baby doing? How is your tank and what did you mean by screw up?

The freshwater test was a success. The water company was curious on why 500 gallons of water was used in a matter of a couple hours until they walked in the house. Then they were like, OH umm I see why.

As for the sand, well they are adding side panels and buffing out the scratches next week so the water has to be drained. Then the rock structures are going in then the sand and water. I am looking at about maybe two weeks the latest. I want to add about another 100 pounds from my tank last to help seed before I add the saltwater.

My goal is tank of the month and also hopefully to appear in a couple articles and tell my true story on how I got into reefing. Going from a 125 to where I am now is almost a success story within itself.

That's what I'm talking about..TOTM. Sure is on its way.

Yes it is and I will try and be as successful as I can.

My "baby" boy is growing like crazy, 97%/95% in weight and height so he's a big boy and best thing that ever happened to me! As far as the tank, right before our monthly INDMAS meeting that I was having at my house I made an adjustment on my Calcium Reactor that led to Alk spiking about 5dKH over night. I lost a lot of my SPS and any that was left was pretty drab. Since then, the tank has been recovering...In talking with other hobbyist, they've mentioned that after something of this nature they've had to wait nearly 6 months for things to get back in balance. Any new coral I've added recently has good color/polyp extension and in the past couple weeks my coral that made it through my screwup are recovering and seem to be getting a little better color and a lot better polyp extension (Still 50% of what it was). Enough about my screwup, was embarrassed to share on thread really...:sad2:

Hope someday we'll all be in the Reef Hobbyist magazine, actually need to get back with them on my system as they mentioned featuring it in a future magazine but after my screwup I put that on hold.

Can't wait for your system to come together! Once it's done you'll be amazed at how many things you wish you would have done this way and that way!

Thanks. In some cases it's already been in that thinking process already.

will there be a photo update coming soon?

Also, how much do you estimate the cost of Zeovit per month for a set up your size? Any idea?

I did not place the cost of the two reactors I am going to need in addition to what I need to use initially but here is the start off bill.

Subtotal: $418.29
Estimate Shipping & Tax
Grand Total: $418.29

The basic 4 use will drop drastically and like the carbon it will be replaced every month and depending on the bioload the zeolites will be replaced every 6-12 weeks.

After that then it depends on the product I need to use to supplement the system.

Wow you had the water police at your house? You mean they monitor people's personal usage, real time? That sounds scary. :uhoh2:

You might want to look into some automation for that rather larger Zeo reactor - there's a lot of videos on how to do that. It's not fun to manually pump and even less so for a large system like you have. It needs a lot of media and the more media, the tougher to pump. I used a small amount on the 50 when I was running Zeo and man I hated pumping that @#$$%ing reactor LOL You're going to use a lot of zeolites during the course of a year. Oh and a lot of expensive little blue bottles too :hmm6: But it's all good. Looking forward to seeing the progress

Did you start a thread on the Zeo site? :)

I have another reactor on the way because I will need 5 bags of zeolite rocks so each reactor will hold 2.5 liters and a pound of carbon. They have the automatic reactors out but they are modding them so the rocks spin better. Yes I know it's going to be some change for the product but if is helping my corals I'm willing to spend that money.

Thanks for the insight and yes I am on the zeo site.

Book-em Danno...

Yea my bill was late and I went to pay it but there was a late fee. So they said go to customer service to see if they would wave the fee. So during the fee waving conversation, the lady was yes we can wave the fee. Then she looks deeper into the computer and was like, you have a major leak because it says you used 500 gallons of water. The water control people are out to investigate. So I get home and then they show up. Once they saw the tank they were like, I think we found the leak. :eek1::eek1::eek1:

I told them I was freshwater testing and making sure there were no leaks. They admired the tank and left. Just waiting on the bill to come.:bounce1::bounce1::bounce1:

Yeah, I've joked with friends before saying I'm just waiting for the DEA to bust down the door...

"I'm a REEFER, it's not what you think!!!"

Checklist for DEA to serve warrant:

- Electric bill twice as high as neighbors
- Twice the water usage
- Blue lights radiating from basement window
- Exhaust fans coming from basement
- Orders from hydroponics website
- People in an out of my house. (To pick up FRAGS!)
