600 Gallon Upgrade Build

As per the zeo heads I made a good choice with the bags but a bad choice also. I had to act like I was mining for gold and had to separate the large and medium stones and keep the smaller ones in the filter bag.

So here is the new configuration.

Wayne this is just my opinion with the lights....If you use Kessels or Cannons those will be your primary lights for growth and the t5's will be used to supplement. Coral+ and Blue+ bulbs are primary bulbs for t5's. I think you should use purple+ and pure actinic bulbs to give your corals that added pop in color.

Thanks Steve. That was the purpose I had intended to use them for. Purple+ and pure actinic it is.

Good idea for the small stones. I may have to try that.

Have you run Zeo before, or is this your first time?

No sir this is the first time.

I heard alot of zeo people complaining about the small stones clogging the holes so I thought about filter bags. They thought it was a great idea but would take away the effectiveness of the larger stones so when I do the change all I have to do is leave 10% of the rocks and place the new ones in the reactor.

Update!!!!

Update!!!!

The tank will be one month this weekend so I will be taking a video. I am going full Zeovit on this build if you haven't noticed already. The problem I am currently having is my Algae Control Test Kit from Red Sea is giving me very false readings. They say my nitrates are 32-64 ppms and my phosphates are reading .16-.36 ppms. I had them tested at a couple LFSs and they both said my nitrates were 2-5 ppm(which is where I would like them in aiding to keep phosphates in check) and that my phosphates were actually .2.

Also I am awaiting on my pump for my second reactor as they shipped the reactor without it. I am guessing that the reactor I purchased was returned and they didn't check the contents of the box and the previous owner got a freebie.

So far this is the requirement for my system.

1 liter of Zeolites per 100 gallons of water. Since my system and future frag tank will accomodate about 400 total gallons of water, I have two 3 liter Zeovit reactors that will hold 2 liters of stones each. Twice a day I am required to pump the reactors 15 times. If I should go out on vacation or end up in the hospital, if it doesnt get pumped it is ok. Also flow through each liter of stones is 100 gallons per hour. So each reactor will have 200 gallons per hour. The first change of stones will be in 4 weeks and then they will be changed between 6 to 8 weeks depending on testing.

Requirements for Zeobac is 1 drop per 25 gallons of water so that means 16 drops a day for the first 14 days and then 2 to 3 times a week.

Requirements for Zeofood7 is 1 drop per 25 gallons of water so that means 16 drop 2 to 3 times a week.

Requirements for Zeostart3 is .1 ml per 25 gallons of water so that means 1.5 ml twice a day preferably morning and evening, and dosed in front of the reactor pump.

Carbon is in my Next Reef XL reactor and the requirements is 1 liter per 250 gallons so I have approximately 1.5 - 2 liters and the carbon will be changed every 30 days like the Zeolites are.

My diatom bloom started immediately. I have temporary lights(2 VHO whites and 2 VHO actinics) running now. I don't know if its the bulbs causing it because I don't know how old they are as they were given to me. I only transferred a few prized corals that I wanted to keep in my tank and so far the only unhappy coral is my Australian Toadstool as the polyps haven't been out for a while.

I also have some new additions to the tank but that will be a surprise when I make my videos this weekend. One will be front of the tank and one will be the sides and the behind the scenes operation.

Also I saw that my thread has been rated at 5 stars. I didn't do that so I don't know if someone did it for me or I met a certain requirement. If someone did then thank you for the vote. If not how does that happen?

See you guys this weekend.:bounce3::bounce2::bounce3::bounce2::p:p:p

HI, wayne I saw your build on zeovit. Very nice. In my 3 month with zeovit, my tank is about 550-600 gallons. I like the way you put the large stones in the mesh bag. I will have to try that.
