600 Gallon Upgrade Build

Cant wait to see this set up. Are you going to rockscape it first before adding water. And im confused about post #7, is that your tank under construction or is it the posters.
Also, forgive me for being lazy and not reading through is this peninsula style? At 48" depth I am assuming you have access to front and rear. My 36" depth tank is up against a wall, would love to have had it deeper if I had fish room behind it.

Yes i will aquascape first before adding water. That was my original sump I was building but I have had a custom one built since then. It should be a couple pages ahead. As for the tank it's going to be viewable 360 degrees. The overflow for the tank is dead center.

Update, Well Sort of

Update, Well Sort of

When a build is slow and budgeted, its hard to post or send updates when there is nothing to update. Is it possible to work on a build without spending money or it only has to happen when money or packages arrive?

Well I am looking at the ceiling and I am wondering how I am going to hang my light rack.

Here is the light rack for now.

I want to place a 1/2" plywood in the center and cut out the places where the lights will reside. Input is greatly appreciated on that idea also.

Since I don't have a good stud finder, I took a small jewel screw driver and stuck about 100 small holes in my ceiling until I his the joists(I hope that's what they are called). When I found the joist then I places the green flags on each side to where they end.

Since I can't bend my neck for it being fused, I only did one side. I will do the other side once the neck relaxes.

What do you think?

Looking good buddy! There are so many steps to setting up a large system that even knocking out the free ones is great progress...

Thanks dca. With so much time between updates and lately lots of hospital visits, it almost makes me wanna give up. Somehow someway motivation kicks me in the arse and I try to get the creative juices flowing.

Looks good Wayne!

There is always plenty that you can do without spending $1. I thing that you will find that the joists or framing will be 12" or 18" apart. Do you have an attic or crawl space in your room?

Wayne, you'll get it done...Hang with it and you'll be happy once everything is up and running. We've both been at this a little while, almost there!

Did you ever get electrical ran or develop a strategy?

You know Dan I bought my house in 2008 and count on both hands with fingers to spare how many times I've been in my attic. :eek2::eek2::eek2:House was built in the early 80's and two weeks ago i got the nerve and went up there. I have my measuring tape and they were 24" center( hope I used that term right). Unfortunately my crawlspaces are in the garage and hallway entering garage from the house.

Yes we both have and its almost a race, slow but gentle and steady, to the finish. A fellow reefer who was an electrician for 13 years is going to help me out. We figured with everything I will be running about 1300 watts of power. I don't know of how many plugs or circuits that will consist of but when he got into detail all that came out of his mouth was blah blah blah blah. That's how lost I was. So January after I get back to Florida will be the goal.

Time and money is working my nerves right now. Well money really isn't the issue but I got to get this tank setup ASAMP.

Why, I'm glad you asked. I was looking at my 225 after adding an algae blennie, one spot foxface, and unicorn. Then I see this.

I can't get this tank setup soon enough. And I don't want to tear down the 225 to catch an engineer gobie(actually there are two of them in there and this isn't the first time this has happened. I am at a quandary.

Advice please.

Wayne, it will happen soon enough!

I wouldn't worry about the Convict Blenny. Human, or rather Fish Nature. When I transferred everything into my new system, I ended up giving several fish to one of my LFS.

Have a Merry Xmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year!!

Thanks Dan. I will follow that philosophy. Be safe in your travels.

Newbie aquarist, are your engineer gobies getting enough to eat? You may need to target feed them. A EG with a full belly will less likely hunt live prey.

it i feed my tank 2-3 times a day and they come out and snatch food. I think I under estimated them thinking they will only keep my sand bed clean. Now I know better.
