600 Gallon Upgrade Build

If you are storing in garage temperature of the water would not matter much if you did automatic water changes through something like the LMIII. Small water changes throughout the day if the temperature is your worry in Florida!

I was talking about the size, not the location. There are lots of ways to move water from here to there, even for your ATO. Just watch out for back siphoning. Even when it is turned off, a pump will allow water to flow through once the connecting pipes are full of water.

Temperature is not the problem. Well it can be. I just like the thought of a basement to keep all the equipment away from the tank. I would like to do an automated WC if I can fit it under the stand and not be crowded. I don't want to run the lines in the attic just in case a visitor gets hungry and creates a problem. Water + insulation + ceiling = major disaster. The way that I look at it now I will probably be doing weekly/biweekly WCs depending on parameters or livestock survival.

I understand where you are going with this but considering where the tank will be that will be an obstacle. I somehow will have to fit sump, skimmer, maybe refuge unless i go with a smaller tank, ATO tank, and dosing equipment. Or I can replace the dosing equipment with a calcium reactor and that will free up space for a bigger refugium. Your knowledge has been helpful throughout my build and I am even honored that you took the time to comment. I just have to be creative and figure something out.

I just read this whole thing front to back! Your a man that just does not give up huh. ha ha Don't feel bad about the progress of your build. I have had my 300 for over a year! I have just only built the support in the basement. And after I finish moving wires and updating wires (my house is 109 years old) I will finish the basement equipment room and maybe one day get this thing full of water! At least the tank is on the stand, and like you mine is made of wood. Im not rich like many of the fellow reefers here on RC!

Thanks for taking the time to read my build. I can't give up. I wasn't brought up to quit plus it's the military in me. This build started in October I think give or take a month. I wish I had a basement but no luck here in Florida. Only thing I need to work on is getting the electrical. As for the stand, can accomplish the same as a steel stand for less money I can use that towards other goodies. Looking forward to your build sir.

US Plastics has a good variety of storage tanks. Horizontal as well as vertical. Check them out. I have had good service from them.

Man I finally got around to reading your whole thread today and you have really been having a rough go at it. Your persistence is impressive! I think I will tag along and see how this ends up :). Keep the updates coming.

I will have to check them out as there is a place here local so I have to see who's least expensive.

Hi thanks for taking the time out to read my thread. Everyone goes through a lot no matter what size of build. It's the drive to finish and make it your own personal masterpiece. Thanks for tagging.

This is as far as I could get building the stand. My saw isn't big enough to cut the 2 x 8s. I didn't want to cut the board and flip it to match the previous cut. Not a good idea.

The rest will be fished hopefully Saturday. The baseboards will be completed then. Pics will follow.

Hey Leroy!

Are you going to have any additional support in the center or just on the corners?

Glad to see that you are making good progress!

No support in the center. The top section will be made out of 2 x 8s and they will be ran long ways with the 8 foot side. Then additional 2 x 4s will be used to support the upper structure that will be attached to the present 2 x 4s you see in the picture. I will take more detailed pictures to explain myself better.

The stand is finished and in place. Well, almost finished. I still have to water proof on the inside.

I will be using this product that is used as a waterproof membrane for showers. Thanks Shelby.
