Leroy. You crack me up! I am very honored to be referenced in your build!

The floor and walls are looking great!

ive kept a pair of engineer in my systems for 8 yrs and they both got to about a foot long. and honestly never once have i ever seen them eat or try eating a fish. i was baffled to see the pic

Well the pair I have are a little over 2 years old and they are atleast 12 inches easily. I am also tired of them stealing all the food before everyone gets to eat. Its causing me to fight a semi nitrate problem. Them and a pink spot shrimp gobie got a weird symbiotic relationship going on.

I normally :uzi::uzi::uzi: somebody for calling me Leroy,(J/K) but you have earned that right. I am usually called Leroy out of anger or if I done something wrong.

Dan I want to that you and everyone else for the support and motivation. Seeing Danday make me want to step my game up especially after water is placed in the tank.

Water Storage Container and Foam

Water Storage Container and Foam

I need assistance or ideas please. What size cisterns should I use? Big enough to do water changes or up to half the tank size. Also, should I place foam under the stand since the tank will be on concrete to help with levelness?

hey wayne, what is your stand made out of? Im no expert but I would think that foam under the stand would compress over time. I ran into the same issue with my basement floor and realized it 100% level after the stand was set in place. My contractor built a form for an area that was just a little bigger than the area that the stand would take up. He then poured this down in that area.....(I will confirm that this is what he used)

That portion of my floor, stand and tank are perfectly level now. If you are going with a steel stand you might be able to get adjustable feet so you can make adjustments to each leg of the stand.

its looking like its going to be wood. Steel is not in thr budget.

You definitely want the floor level. Look at what happened to Adam's tank after only having water in it for a few days.

Wayne, I just spent all morning going through this entire thread and just want to say thanks. I had read portions of your thread early on when you had provided some advice on a new large tank build I was going to do. Come to find out the original tank I bought was a lemon and waiting for failure, at that point I was ready to just throw in the towel on the whole hobby, but all the things you overcame for your build inspired me to order a brand new AGE tank and keep pressing on. Just wanted to say thanks for all the great ideas i've come across in your thread and for helping me keep the faith. Look for my new tank build thread soon!!

Wayne,

Under the acrylic 1/2-3/4 foam will do and would just recommend shimming under the tank and getting perfectly level. I got lucky and tank was only about 1/32 off front to back and I just shimmed. Depending on if the floor is not level, you might have to look at a more drastic solution.

As far as water storage, I plan on ordering from the tank depot.

Most likely plan on getting a couple 175 gallon vertical tanks!

Thank you big. I am honored that my build resurrected and motivated you. Words can't explain my emotions right now. I wish you the best in your build and I hope even if one idea makes it to your build.

How many gallons you suggest?

I plan on having two 175s. One for SW and another will serve as the RO/DI reservoir. Makes it so within no time I should be able to have 350 gallons of water ready for a water change.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but should the bubble trap not be turned up side down? You may want to go with more than just one drain too. The filter socks should work great, I would use 7" mesh.

Nice sump, like the buffles in the front before the socks.

The sky's the limit when it comes to water storage. There was one guy's set up, I think it was one of those Mr. Saltwater vids, he had something like 2x or 3x the total system volume in extra storage tanks. The rationale was that more water overall provided more stability.

Personally, I would think that where budget is a concern, you would be better off planning for how large and how often you plan to do water changes and set your water storage up for that. Also make sure to plan for ATO so you can plumb stuff together and keep it simple and compact.

Well there are two problems. One, the containers will be in the garage and two, the ATO will have to be under the tank. That's what sucks living in Florida and a HOA. I wish I could have a basement or better yet a fish room. That was far off my mind when house shopping.

Thanks for your input Dave.M.
