600 Gallon Upgrade Build

Nice, I'm jealous, I would love to have some stored water instead of my trash can ice been dragging around all this time. Your bricks scare me though, wanna play Jenga haha

Check craigslist for those IBC containers- you should be able to find them for $50-100 used (usually to ship olives or whatnot). just be sure to get food grade. I found them easily when I lived in San Diego, and now too in Chicago. Just need to get my BIG system online to actually necessitate buying one, BUT I know where to go when I do.

Yea it was getting old carrying buckets to a can that mixes salt water. As for Jenga the blocks are a little big to play with.

That's where I bought mine. They both are food grade and rinsed thoroughly.

Very nice water storage units. Brilliant to get the infrastructure set before the tank is setup completely.

Why do you think you need a better ro/di?

Hey glad to see you RJT. It took some thinking and back reading lots of build threads and I noticed that they pretty much had everything in play before the tank was placed in the final resting spot. Good thing I have a lot of time to do better planning and research.

As for my RO/DI unit, it's only 75-90 gallons per day. I think if I could upgrade to maybe a 150 gpd unit I wouldn't have to wait for water to be made up in case of an emergency.

I started fillin the new tank Thursday night and it so far at this moment had produced about 175 gallons give or take 5-10 gallons for top off water.

Do you think I'll be ok with what I have now or go bigger?

Seimens makes good large scale RO and DIs for home use. I have a DI unit that makes up 100s of gallons at a time with 0 TDS. My current unit was changed out this spring after running 13 months. You probably have a local supplier. The tanks are well made and with your volume it is worth checking out.

Hey Wayne, our local club has talked w Russ @ buckeye field supply(sponsor) shoot him a message but if I recall correctly he told us anything over 100gpd starts to really change the rejection rate and lose efficiency.
I can't remember all of what he said but feel free to shoot him a pm or post in their forum. I bought a 75gpd for the reason he stated

Since these containers are so large you can do a 95-100% water change without the ro/di doing anything because of the rock and sand displacement of the water.

I wouldn't buy a larger ro/di unit and save that money for salt or a hundred other things this hobby requires.

Looking good Wayne, been a few weeks since I've poked around and things are progressing. When is it time to move the water from the storage tanks to the actual tank? Guess your tank has to be built first:D

Thanks for the heads up. I just found out mine is 100 gpd. I might just add a booster pump on it.

Thanks Corey. I talked to a couple people and they said with something like that I need to see what the pressure was going into the RO/DI unit and if its less than 50 psi then I will have to get a booster pump to make my unit more efficient.

I agree and thanks for the info. I know how that money will be used very well.:bigeyes::bigeyes:

Goal is before surgery. But the way the VA has been performing lately I might make that goal. I still need to purchase the Sea Swirls, sand, more rock since the aquascape will be sorta, kinda, maybe minimal.

Everything else I need will be purchased during the cycle.

Nice mixing containers, I thought about getting a couple of those myself as they're super cheap if I drive a couple hours to the Sacramento area and get them from farmers looking to part on the cheap... but the dimensions of those... I couldn't fit them through any doorway, and I don't think the wife would appreciate losing more garage space to this hobby :D

Well my girl saw them and said "All of your fish stuff is going along that wall and the rest of the garage will be for me."

I couldn't complain with that.

Amazing how things just work themselves out sometimes :lmao:

How long will you cycle the tank? How about a pic of your current tank?
