600 Gallon Upgrade Build

No biggy, was confused:D Looks good and I very seriously doubt you will have a leak around those bulkheads. With such a big plate you've got, looks like inches of bonded acrylic so it'd be really hard for a leak to navigate it's way post those. Just think, all the other places your acrylic is bonded together 3/4" seems (hopefully with no bubbles)!

You are definitely right. I felt that was the best way to do it rather than small pieces of acrylic.

I believe I will stop here as there is no leaks. I will leave it like this with a powerhead or pump for a few days just to be safe.

Ozone? Pros and Cons

Ozone? Pros and Cons

I have been considering running ozone on my tank. I have heard the pluses of ozone like water clarity and algae control and the negatives like no effect on algae control, killing bacteria, affecting skimmate, and worse case scenario over dosing killing all your animals. I also read that its better running ozone through a reactor than your skimmer for better results. I would like to hear from the experts who is running ozone for some hints and advice.

New Additions

New Additions

Since my 225 is my growing tank, I thought I'd try some chalices. So far I can only keep a couple. I got this one from a fellow reefer.

I think he called this a watermelon or reverse watermelon chalice.

I think it is a great list!

What about a nice Purple Tang??? How many fish are you considering in a large school (Cardinal Fish, Anthias)???

Is the Lamarck a male? IME the largest male Genicanthus angel will dominate the other angels and change them back to females...

why a female naso, if you have the (better looking/streamers) male?...

possibility of those triggers getting aggressive...

Now I am truly honored that you took some time from your vacation to check on my thread. I am a lost for words except for the ones that I am typing now. I thought about a purple tang but some people have told me that it might have issues with a black tang. I love the purple but if I cant get a black then the purple will prevail.

As for the Cardinal Fish and Anthias I would like about 10 - 15 of each species.

thats an impressive list Wayne!!!! any concerns about the Achilles and Sohal in the same tank?

My plan is to add them both at the same time and make sure that the Achilles is larger than the Sohal.

The Lamarck is a male. The other angels are already female. Why the female naso, because I want to do a pair of them. As for the triggers, it will be a test but I believe I can get away with it as I said on an earlier post that I will be putting them in together.

I have had success adding pairs of "aggressive" fish at the same time: 2 purple tangs, 2 achilles, 2 powder blues... I think that your tank is more than large enough and you will have plenty of rock/hiding places.

My plan will be to add 2 sohoals, 2 achillies, 2 purple tangs, 2 powder blues, 2 brown... all at the same time.

Wow. I was thinking the same thing but was afraid that one would kill the other off. Seems like it might just work.

On a side note, we have the same number of posts. But you have 2000+ more views than me.

so whats the next step now wayne? how close are you to setting this puppy up?

More like a couple months depending on expenses. My daughter is going to college starting in August and I have to get her laptop for school. My son will be for the summer so plane tickets cost. Then I have to move my daughter into college. On top of that I need 300 lbs of rock, the sea swirls, koralias, plus order piping. I won't do the lights until after the cycle. I know there is more but can't think off the top of my head. Plus I'm recovering for the of the tank getting buffed.

Simply amazing, if only i had the same skills.

You do. Never sell yourself short you do with what's within your limits. I know this was going to be a slow build. Some months I can spend more than other months. Sometimes I don't spend but that's because I thing going on in my life but I learned to go slow and patience is a virtue.

Overflow - UPDATE

Overflow - UPDATE

When I first got the tank I redid(redrilled) the center overflow in hoping to do a Bean Animal type overflow. Well when I placed the bulkheads in and leak tested, I drilled the 2 inch bulkheads a little big and I had leaks. Since I had extra acrylic I cut a piece to the inside measurements of the overflow.

attachment.php

This is a pic of the inside of the overflow.

I took Weldon 16 and traced the outside holes of the 2 inch drains and 1 inch returns.

attachment.php

It doesn't look like it but I placed the new acrylic inside.

attachment.php

And I placed concrete blocks to help seal the piece.

Later tonight or tomorrow I will Weldon 16 the outside edge and let it cure.
