600 Gallon Upgrade Build

I cant wait to see this wonderfull tank loaded with corals, but do be varefull with the zeovit system - corals need a lot of nutrients though.
I switched to Sangokai methodology, and its much cheaper, and gives better color.

Just my personal experience :-)

Peder

I have to research that method as I never heard of that before.

U should relly look into it, its better and cheaper.
And Jorg(founder of Sangokai) writes whats inside the botles, so no "snakeoil" - so in my system Im actually adding a lot of N and P, besides aminos etc - and I dropped the true ULNS method, because of lack of color and health on my sps.

This way is good, and even cheaper. I dont use all his "stuff" as zeolith stones and carbon, beacuse Im a beleiver in heavy skimming, and waterchanges - and a lot of feeding to make fish and corals healthy.

I have great succes with No3 as high as 5-10, and very low inorganic P, but I do dose organic P and iodine and Kalium (Potassium) to the system though.

His website sangokai.de is mostly in German - but use google translate. His ingrediens are much more potent - and furthermore, i prefer I know what Im dosing to my system :-)

Just trying to help, its your tank, and yr decission :-)

Not much information out there on this method Peder, and it doesn't appear that it's available in the US at all.

Your fish look lost!! It looks like they are in shock, like "Who the flack put us back in the ocean!" Great work really like the aquascaping, definately a tank to keep an eye on as it grows.

Thanks Rascal. That was the intention. They hid for like 3 days before they saw there was more space. Now they are out constantly and everyone has atleast 2-3 hiding spaces they are trying to claim.

The video looks great. The plane is a great idea and really adds some dramatic flair, especially facing the left; looks like it crashed right into the reef.

Congratulations on the great setup and for having the patience to see it through.

Thanks Stylo. I couldn't finish this build without the help of you guys on this forum. I thank all of you.

Great to run into you at CC on Friday.... having your pic in the avatar does pay off! LOL

It was an honor to meet you also. And yes facial avatars does pay off. When things slow down I would love to take the time and come see your setup or if you are down my way again you could see mine.

Thanks Robert. Yes that is a plane. I wanted to get as close as possible to a reef with a wreckage. On e the tank starts to mature that's when the real fun begins.

600 Gallon Upgrade Build

This the update. I am starting to get diatoms on the sand and having a tank of this magnitude I'm a little afraid of how to stock the tank so keep the sand cleaned. I love sand sifting cucumbers and starfish, tonga nassauris snails and maybe a conch or two or three. Since the tank is fairly new I want to add half the crew now so they won't starve and half later. Any suggestions will be grateful.

I have cucumbers that are 7-10 yrs old... But sand sifting stars would only last a few months!

diatoms are a six month + or - minus problem even with things going well. I am still fighting them... One thing that does help is that I do water changes using a sand cleaner (python) and suck and clean the sand up.... the water is brown in the big 40G container that I syphon it too.... GFO certainly helps also....lots of it!

and maybe closer to the holidays we can do some tank visits...

Great idea, I added my clean up crew the same way, that way I kept the balance for supply and demand

Thanks. I will probably call John from Reef Cleaners and see what he has up his sleeve.

Now that you said that, I noticed they don't live long. Plus I like the cucumbers more.

I never thought about syphoning the sand. Thanks for the idea. Whenever you are free I will work my schedule around you to meet up.

ITS ALIVE hahahhaa..looks good sir. plenty of room for activities lol

Yes sir it is. The fish are still in shock. But they do love the space.
