6000 gallon system - Project.

Amazing job Jamesurq... I am in awe! I may have to make a drive that way to check it out when on the road near that area. I am sure that the wife will want to have a nice meal and it will help her see that I dont have the "crazy fishtank mental disorder" as bad as other people! :D
Keep the pictures coming as you get the time and progress. :)

thesaent14,
Off topic, but is your pH reading from your reactor since its only 6?

that is how I run mine... and I dont see it reading 6 in the tank....

Love the tank, let me ask though...

Why did you use a ball valve and not a gate valve to regulate flow into the UV? Won't the ball valve shift position with pressure on it?

I figure you're not going to leave those pricey RK2 pumps right on the slab like that. I was curious as to why you used a DWV (drain to waste) on that "Y" on the pressurized return?

Again, it looks like the PVC piping is DWV (drain to waste), are you not worried about using that on a pressurized line?

I also didn't see what you are using for fresh water make-up and storage. What unit do you plan on using to filter fresh water?

Let's see some more pics! I LOVE huge systems!!!!

lol will you have to pay just to walk into this place so you can see the tank... lol

love it...

IIRC, DWV is rated at 40' of head pressure, so it will be fine.
The ball valve will not move under pressure, though at 3" and above, its best to use a butterfly valve.

yes is from my cal reactor i was able to fool the octopus by adding a small piece of TI from the cup to the sump

Actually, that systems psi is a lot higher than those pipes can safely handle longterm. Just doesn't make sense to skimp on correct piping to save a few bucks when you're talking about a several hundred thousand dollar system. May also kinda explain all the leaks that I've heard this system is having. That and the fact that it appears to be poorly plumbed. I agree scturbo, those pumps should have been higher off the ground. Awesome tank though!

Oh yeah, a few days ago I talked with the company who has been commissioned to fix the problems with this system and they are suppose to send me some fish pics so I can post them for you guys. Stay tuned... :)

A new plot twist.
I do hope our friend Jamesurq isn't taking heat for the necessary re-piping. He's delivered some great info and pics.

No doubt, the tank looks great! I couldn't imagine what's involved with replumbing that entire system if all the plumbing is not pressure rated, but hopefully whoever designed it was smart enough to have it set up so that each tank can be shut down seperately so that the necessary work can be done without the ENTIRE system being down for repairs.

BTW... What are you using for fresh water make-up and storage? Is there a RODI storage/salt mix vat crammed in that room, or did you put it in a remote location?

Keep the pics coming!!!

Completely incorrect - and unfortunate that the current person that's been "hired" to "fix" the problems is spreading slanderous lies about the system's overall quality.

I am not involved with the system anymore as I was doing it as part-time work until I got a real job. But I can tell you that the quality of the work was top notch.

The people (person) that are making these statements are the same ones (under new ID's) that were banned before.

You should be glad I'm not there after what you did to Jon on this - assuming what I've heard is true. I'm not sure how you can look at yourself in the mirror.

Karma is tough on those that lack respect for their fellow man.

everyone will do different things in their tanks.... no 2 tanks will be put together alike... I have some of my best friends that we see eachothers tank on a daily basis and I wouldnt agree with how they plumb their tanks now... James nice job I am sorry that people are spreading rumors or lies or whatever they are.... everything will work out.

Well, from what I understand all the tanks are plumbed together and so no you can't shut one down without the other, unfortunately. They had some plumbers out there to fix one line but that was all they could do because it emptied a lot of water and there is currently no way to make up new water without shutting down the system. But, they are working on that so they can fix all the leaks and plumbing problems.

I also heard there have been other problems that had to be addressed as well, such as the 5 bulb UV fixture was missing 3 bulbs so they had to order those. There were too many decorations in the shark tank so they had to pull some out, and the ozone unit wasn't working properly so they had to send it back for to be repaired. Oh yeah, the skimmer wasn't set up properly and was leaking as well, but they fixed that. There were other reasons for taking so long to get fish in those tanks but I can't remember what they were.

As for spreading "lies" and "rumors" I can vouch for the company that was hired to finish that tank because I saw the problems with my own eyes, some were pictures, but that's aside from the point. And I don't think anyone was attacking the quality of the system. It was just mentioned that there are some problems that had to be fixed. From what I've seen, some have already been fixed and some are still needing attention.

But anyway, aside from any nonsense, the sharks are awesome! The 1000g is also impressive, as well as, the two smaller tanks, which actually look closer to the 100g size. Out of all the tanks I like the shark tank the best because those sharks are SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL! Oh and the Lookdowns are about the size of dinner plates and take your breath away when you see them in a school that size. I counted 10 of those bad boyz! As soon as I recieve those pics I post them for your viewing pleasure:)

peace
