6025 reverses at start-up...90% of the time

I've replaced my Koralias with stronger flow 6025's. The Problem is that the pumps always start in reverse flow, defeating the purpose. Is there a fix for this? When I restrict the flow into the front of the pump while it's in reverse, the impeller moves back in the housing and then reverses flow in the right direction. I'm scratching my head trying to figure this one out. Both the pumps do exactly the same thing? Any suggestions besides going back to the koralias and trashing the 6025's

I wish to have the answer for this because my did the same but it only happen the first time esp when you disassemble the unit...

Is the pump modded? I bought one used from a local reefer and it has been modded and it does the same thing.

Are these brand new pumps? When brand new the pumps may be stiff and just need to run continuously for a few days to loosen up. To correct direction the drive unit needs to be able to fly forward and fall back. The most common cause of this failing is too much vaseline was applied during a dry test run at the factory and the drive unit is "glued" down by the vaseline. Backwards is the path of least resistance, the pumps normally start backwards and correct themselves within a few seconds but when new parts may need to wear in and the excess vaseline may need to be wiped off to get normal operation.

Also, keep in mind the pumps should not be cycled on and off more than once every 15 minutes.

Roger, The pumps have been used for approx 3 months before I put them on a 15 minute on - off cycle. That's when the problem was really noticable. I've cleaned them before on no residue remains from the factory? is there anything else I can do? Replace a magnet or impellor? It's really not working for me like this. I could understand it if it were only one pump, but it's both of them. Seems like it might be a design flaw?

I hate to say it, but if this can't be fixed, those cheap koralias might be the answer.

Can you send me the pumps? I would have to see what is wrong, they could be older stock that had a different style drive unit.

I'll swapp them out at my next water change and sent them to you. I appreciate your willingness to look into it.

They have a two year warranty we will get this solved one way or another but it is difficult since we had a few drive unit revisions and each one has there own quirks. I want to make sure we get it solved.
