6045 to much?

Hi Roger -

I've been thinking - do you think a 6045 would be too much for my 45 gallon tank? The dimensions are 36L x 12D x 24H. The tank is nearly half full(height) of live rock and has a 2" southdown sand bed. I have many RBTAs, frog spawn, xenia, gsp, and a maxima clam. I'd like to try my hand at some SPS.

I was thinking about two 6025's, but with the limited availability i was considering one 6045 instead.

I don't think it would be too much, the flow is not that much more than a 6025, the 6025 is actually a bit stronger than the initial rating stated at Interzoo, it does about 720gph, the 6045 is actually a little weaker, it does about 1100 gph. The flow has about the same force and spread, the 6045 reaches about 3ft, the 6025 about 2ft so I don't see a problem.

Weaker than rated, basically the interzoo flyer, which in all fairness is like a CES or Detroit Auto Show flyer- it is a preview and nothing is set in stone, said that the 6045 would do 1195 and the 6025 would do 660. The actual flow is about 720 and 1100. Interzoo is an industry trade show that basically is used to show concepts and prototypes and attract vendors so often things change and some never actually go into production.
