6100's are loud

Hi Roger,
I just hooked up my 2-6100's w/multicontroller and they seem really loud. They emit this hum that is really annoying. Is there a reason for this? Are all the Tunzes loud? It almost seems like it is a constant buzz. Please help as I cannot live with this noise. Thanks.

i'm sure Roger has help with the Buzz sound, but they aren't supposed to make any noise. mine are virtually silent even right up at them.

How do you have them mounted? Are they leaning against the glass because they will vibrate against the glass. If you're using the rail mount, be sure to have the rubber feet against the glass to dampen that.

I have them mounted on the magnets. Both seem equally loud.

Two possible causes, air inside the drive unit which can be remedied by installing it under water. When we changed the drive unit to reduce the vacuum that caused the lime precipitation issues we lost some of the ability to purge air so air gets trapped inside them and it can take a couple weeks to purge if you don't do it this way. The other possibility is the collar labeled bearing bush on the parts breakdown has slipped in transit, just push this in firmly. The pumps start out louder but grow quieter as the parts wear in. You should not be able to hear them though much beyond 1ft away from the aquarium.
