6101 question

Hi all

I just set up my first pair of 6101's in my 120 sps dominated reef.

I like the water movement but one of them is making a noise anytime it runs at above 30% of power. The sound is kind of a buzz and a low frequency rattle. These are less than 48 hours old.
Anyone have a suggestion on what I can do to quiet this thing down?

Thanks

Youre running it on the aquasurf? Have you ran them on a single controller or the multi to know for sure its the tunze's and not the neptune controller??

einsteins,

You have 2 9101(s) on the AquaSurf if I remember correctly, and the other unit is not making the noise. You could swap the cable between the AquaSurf and the 9101(s) and see if the noisy one stays noisy or if the noise switches; that would (mostly) test the AquaSurf. You could also try moving from E1,E2 to E3,E4 to further test the AquaSurf.

I did switch the cables but the same pump still made the same noise....

This really sounds like a mechanical rattle...

Tomorrow I will remove it and check it visually to see if I notice anything.

Man I paid a ton of money for these against my intuition and now I have a pump that is making an irritating noise. my family is about to kill me.

On the one that makes a rattling noise, if it is a mechanical noise double check the drive unit, often the bearing bush slips out of position in shipping or on first start up. Just push it back in. You can also try swapping the drive unit with the quiet pump. They will normally make a bit of noise, especially the first couple weeks as they wear in. You can rule out the controller by running them without any controller. If the controller runs the pumps at a lower speed than they are designed for it will make noise. When using any controller the potentiometer knob on the junction block must be at 100% power.

Thanks for the reply...

I think this issue has worked itself out...over the last 2 days the sound has lessened and this morning I don't hear anything....

"They will normally make a bit of noise, especially the first couple weeks as they wear in"

I will post back if the noise starts again....but for now I think we are good to go.

Thanks again
