6205 clicking

Hi Roger,

my new 6205 is clicking a couple of times every minute. It looks like it stops briefly then restarts immediatley.

I've taken it apart and given it a thorough clean, although its fairly new so it wasnt dirty, yet it continues to stall with a clicking noise, then start again.

Any ideas?

Is it set up on a controller to stop, is it struggling to restart after it stops (as programmed on a controller) or just stopping on its own? If you are using a controller, what model are you using?

I had it setup with a tunze single controller. It still does it even when not connected tp the controller.

I have now tried to change the output using the little white knob on the part that has a plug to connect to the controller. It seems better now. Hopefully it stays that way.

Ah OK, that is the problem. With the 7091, if you turn down the pump power the pump won't work, basically you are lowering the power to the controller and the controller gets wonky, you want to use only the controller to adjust speed and keep the pump potentiometer at full power.

Roger,

this 6205, even on full power by adjusting the potentiometer, it is only pumping out what seems about half of my freinds 6100. We have tried adjusting the potentiometer and even using other 7091 controllers, and it either doesn't work at all or pumps very low.

Any suggestions before I send it off to aquadepot for them to have a look?

Thanks

Marcus

Make sure the propeller spins freely on the metal shaft, it could be binding from some debris between the shaft and drive unit. Make sure the potentiometer is at full power and try it with no controller. The flow pattern of a 6205 will have less reach and a bit less pressure than a 6100. A 6100 has a 7ft by 2ft pattern and a 6205 has a 6ft by 3ft pattern. It will feel a bit less forceful as a result.

Thanks Roger.

Is it possible the potentiometer is faulty and not achieving a full power setting?

Is any other cause likely such as a faulty transformer/power supply or motor block, or would faults in these parts cause the device to cease working entirely?

Marcus

Roger, just an update. My freind is having a look at the unit and has made this observation:

"I think that the potentiometer is faulty as it can only maintain one speed, on or off; and a 7091 controller has no control over the pump to pulse it or vary its speed ... so I'm not able to discern whether the speed that it is running is its maximum (doesn't feel like 20,000L/hr) or minimum (feels like 5,000L/hr)."

Any ideas? By the way, the unit has had a thorough clean with vinegar.

Thanks again

Marcus

It could be, it would be odd for it to have worked and then stop working, it would be worthwhile to open the connector and check the small board to see if it has any corrosion or salt creep in the port for the controller cable. The potentiometer is on the same board. This small piece can be replaced.
