65 DSA SPS Dominant Mixed Reef

Looking good. I'm running the same tank.

Thank you, I checked out your build, which is very impressive. Wish I would have been lucky enough to get the rimless tank. I wish I could be of some assistance with your current issues. Good luck with everything!

Thanks man, I've since gotten things figured out. I'm running full zeovit now and I just ordered an ATI led powermodule!

Good deal. And I'm jealous of the ATI. I wanted to do one pretty bad on my tank but settled for the hydras. Overall I think they are a great functioning light and I haven't had any problems with growth and health, but I know coverage would be better with the ATI. Oh well lights can always be changed!

Last night I tested Alk and Ca and came up with 5.5 and 420. I tested Alk twice as 5.5 is lowwww. All the corals look good, and have nice PE so I just dosed enough to raise the dKH by approximately 1.2. I Was away for a few days this past weekend and then was sick so I missed a few Alk doses.

I want to get a new test kit for Alk so I can seriously dial in the current daily consumption. I will not have the funds for any kind of dosing setup in the near future so manual will continue. I don't mind doing it and I don't have to worry about an overdose. The only thing I hate is there is no rock solid stability. How is Salifert's Alk kit?

Another question is can I dose the BRS soda ash and calcium closely with one another? For example could I make a dose of each in the morning before work and a dose of each in the evening and be fine? Currently I am dosing Alk at night and Ca in the morning.

Exciting news is that I have noticeable growth tips on a few pieces. I've always had slow growth here and there but here recently it seems some of my pieces want to take off!

I'll try to get some Phone pictures up this weekend.

I use Salifert for everything except phosphate. I would dose alkalinity and calcium at least one hour apart. If I were you I'd get a dosing pump to keep things more stable. I like being able to dose 1.1ml of alkalinity every hour all day to keep my system more stable.

I have probably 10-15 more tests in my red sea kit then it will be time for new kits. Thanks for the advice on the dosing, I know I need a pump and one day I will have to when consumption gets high enough. But for now its manual...

Today I cleaned the skimmer and tank. I also went to the LFS to get water and ended up walking out with a $10 frag. Couldn't resist as it was well encrusted and healthy looking. They had a HUGE selection today making me wish my pockets were deeper .

I also mounted my purple tipped stag and turquoise stag. Both are pretty brown at the moment but hoping the higher placement helps with that in the coming weeks. The turquoise stag still has the dead spot toward the top that is covered with algae, but the tip is still healthy and the middle is regrowing over the dead area so I have left it alone. I considered cutting it off.

Heres a few pics:

Today I got the new frag mounted. It had great PE day and night so I figured a week was long enough. Hopefully it likes it permanent spot.

I also finally cut off the dead part of the turquoise tipped stag. It was pretty heavily covered with algae. First time cutting a coral so I guess time will tell how it will grow back. I still have no clue as to what caused the area to die off during the move.

Also now that this piece has grown out more I was wondering if anyone reading would have a possible ID? Might post it over in the ID thread as well I have had it over a year.

Time for a little update:

Yesterday my wife and I went to the LFS to pick up some RODI and 5 gallons of salt water and ended up coming home with a new fish! Also an urchin which is a first for us, I figured I would give one a try for all this GHA I have in my tank.

Here is a picture of both:

The wrasse is very small, but I watched her eat frozen mysis in store and as soon as I put her in the tank I fed and she ate right away. We have always wanted to try a Leopard wrasse but I always felt too inexperienced. I guess we will see! I was surprised she did not dive right into the sand but she stayed out the whole rest of the day. The only fish that showed aggression towards her was the flame hawk "Clifford". Hoping that subsides with time.

One of my favorite fish.
If it's eating that well, it'll probably do great.
That urchin is a pretty decent gha mower. Good luck!

Beautiful fish.

Thanks guys!

Still eating like a pig which is wonderful, only fed mysis so far, but picked up some frozen brine today to give a little variety. So I will have to see if she will eat that. And the Urchin is definitely mowing down some GHA, although I have discovered I must glue down all frags :lolspin:

Today I added a couple frags to the tank. Pretty excited to say that I now have a millepora. My wife actually picked it out. I also added another green acro that jumped out at me in the LFS. They had some amazing stuff today and I had to sit by and watch a guy buy 3 pretty big colonies right in front of me.

Heres a couple pictures of the new goods:
