730g In-Wall Display

Awesome build! Are you free drilling all these holes, or starting the bit on an angle? Just askin cause i noticed the scratches around it. You should use a template. Just cut a 6"x6" piece of plywood then drill a hole in it that matches your diamond bit. You can clamp, glue, hot glue or duct tape it to the tank. It will start the bit nice for you and when you pour the water on bit it will keep it in there. Drilled many of holes like this they work great. Just suggesting it cause that tank deserves the best :) So sweet! When we gonna see it filled?

I start bits on an angle, but this one ran a tiny bit... I drill free-hand, and it's not an issue for me. I've drilled quite a few holes over the years! ;)

how about some updates. tank or bike. (the bike is most deff. part of the build in my eyes.) it keeps the tank going by de-stressing.

My contractor was able to make it out yesterday and was able to re-design the left side of the stand to enable full accessibility to the 3 overflow drains. Now I'm waiting for him to do the same on the right side and then tie ann the posts together and finish out front wall under the stand. Once he's done with all that (should be done over the weekend), I'll be able to begin all the drilling and plumbing.

I just bought a cargo trailer today so that IO can begin tearing down the systems at our other house and bringing them over here as I need to tie in specific portions of it as the build progresses over this next month...

To be honest, I've been so busy working that even if I wasn't waiting for my buddy to get his stuff done, I wouldn't have been able to do much more until now that my programming project is complete anyway, and I just finalized it yesterday afternoon!

As for the bike, hopefully I'll have new pics and build updates to post in the next day or two... I've ordered several more cosmetic and performance parts which should be arriving tomorrow and Saturday. The M4 Carbon can isn't one of them though, because the money that I would have used for that was spent on a liveaboard dive trip to the Texas Flower Gardens in 2 weeks. In fact, I just paid for that trip this morning I was also ready to pull the trigger on a set of adjustable racing brake & clutch levers for the SV, but decided to buy a pair of Kevlar slider pants instead, because I'm gonna have it in the mountains next weekend and since the dive trip is 3 days after the bike trip, I figured if I go down in a turn then the dive trip wouldn't be possible due to road rash. Slider gear will keep my skin in tact, and I would just end up having to replace the new levers again anyway, so I figure that I'll add them after I return from both trips! ;)

how do you plan on the maintenance in this tank? We are thinking of doing an inwall that is similar depth and I'm worried about being able to reach the front glass to clean it and do other maint. things. just curious if you have any ideas so I can copy you :)

Since I'm still waiting for my contractor buddy to finish the stand "redo" and the front wall, I have focused all of my energies into my new bike... ;)

Installed Components
  • Zero Gravity touring windscreen - smoked
  • Titanium colored windscreen bolts
  • PIAA 4100k bulbs - headlamps and marker lights
  • Pazzo levers - titanium w/ black adjusters
  • Grip Puppies - foam overgrips
  • Motosliders - frame & swingarm
  • K&N air filter
  • aTRE - ignition timing controller
  • K&N oil filter
  • Power Commander V - on order
  • Gripster tank grips - High Fusion
  • SVRacing rearset risers - black
  • SVRacing rearset - black
  • SVRacing brake light banjo bolt/switch - hardwired to eliminate plug and lengthy wire mess
  • Hugger - black
  • SVRacing exhaust hanger - black
  • M4 Carbon slip-on
  • OEM solo cowl - 09 grey
  • Evotech fender eliminator
I'm now on a mission to black out as many of the rear bolts and parts as possible.

This is my "mid-life crisis" toy, and I tagged 130mph indicated this afternoon on a back road! Once the Power Commander is installed next week, I should be able to gain another 5-6mph. :D

Very nice!!

Love the hugger and the fender eliminator. Love the slip-on, too. Bet you got better sound, a lighter bike, and a little more "oomph" as well. :D

Yep, that M4 can makes a world of difference... I did lose some low-end torque though, but I'll gain it all back (and then some) with the PC-5! ;)

FWIW: At this point the bike is pretty much track ready and capable, if I ever wanted to make the drive to Alabama to try it.

Before & after pics...

Love the look... Including the rear seat cover. Add that to the fender eliminator kit, the hugger fender and the slip-on, and it really cleans the bike up nicely.

You gonna stuff the blinkers, too?

Nah, I'm leaving them out as they are... Especially now that this is my only bike for awhile... The other one was totaled yesterday while my budy and I were on our way to a bike rally in NW Arkansas. He was riding it at the time and got to close to the edge in a tight decreasing radius turn, then blew off the road and down an embankment when he hit gravel at the edge of the shoulder. He controlled it as long as he could, then had to let it go before being killed himself. It did sommersaults, cartwheels and all sorts of loop-de-loops from the looks of it and also from the craters that were dug along the path. He's very lucky to have only fractured his wrist!!!

He was riding very conservatively and well within his limits all day, while I was running hot & heavy in the lead with the SV... I myslef came very close to eating it in the next turn past this one because of the downhill decreasing radius turns on this particular mountain road. When I waited for him at the end of the road (about 3 miles away) and he didn't show up within 2-3 minutes, I had that sick gut feeling so I turned around and went back and my worst fears were confirmed. :-(

The bike is just a well insured metal and plastic TOY that can be easily replaced!!!!

...Decreasing Radius Downhill Turn...

My buddy was riding it at the time while I was werll out in front on the SV, riding her the way she was meant to be ridden! He was following behind at a leisurely and very conservative pace because he's a good rider that always only ever "rides his own ride". He broke his R wrist after he jumped and let the bike go once he realized that he couldn't maintain it after leaving the road (imagine a deep ditch following the contour of a tight turn). He did everything right and at precisely the right moments, otherwise I shudder to thing about what may have been... Had pretty much anything been different to the point of much more than 4-5 feet in either direction, I very well could have had to make "the" call to his wife and their 2 small children.

We were on our way to a bike rally out of town, and the accident occured about 15 miles before we reached our destination. :(

While my insurance company may have a very different outlook, I would have no qualms with letting him ride any of my bikes again in the future after he's healed up!

I did arrive back home with the above in tow to find some good news though, because my contractor had made some progress while I was away... :)

oh, and just another question. why did you choose the lights that you are using? why not go with a lumen max/elite or lumabright fixture?

just wondering.

Very nice, is this the same contractor that is re-doing the stand. (or modifying it)?
Yep, same guy... He was "supposed" to have finished the stand before starting the walls though so that I can begin drilling and plumbing, but at this point any progress is good progress!

Ahhhh, very good question!

I typically do use the Elites which are the reflectors only rather than the pendants, but du to the size of this system I needed to stagger the lights and I figured the best way to do that would be to use the pendant housings because of the possibility of having 2 mounting points rather than 1. With a 3 railed light rack like I designed, I gained a lot of structural rigidity by being able to alternate the mounting points on multiple cross beams, tpo better spread and distribute the weight as well as to provide for absolutely perfect placement for the lighting for even light distribution.

-Tim

Also, where he's began building the outer wall, that section will house a double-stacked pair of cut down 125's that will be the frag tanks for this system.

Now that the wall is beginning to take shape, it is far easier to envision where and how everything will be inter-connected.

-Tim

This will be the system that sits along that wall...
