75 Gallon Pictures & Build Thread

I think the biggest issue that would cause is might affect the aerobic and anaerobic zones of your sand bed. If it were my tank I'd use the egg crate or nothing. I imagine you could use smaller sections to create feet for you stacked rock but I wouldn't use it across large sections.

Well since you told me twice I guess it's serious.. :D I'll just go with the eggcrate then.... I can drill a few rocks and just use cpvc or what not.

Well I picked up some plastic chicken wire today from the store. Holes look about to be 1/4" - 3/8" in size... nice soft cover for the top of the tank which is a bit softer on impact for jumping fish than eggcrate.

Have to find something small to mount it too.

New pics. Don't mind the mess of the fishroom... had to lug everything in there for the time being in one giant pile... probably going to buy some hooks and hang things on bungee cords/shelves etc..

Pics are of the fish room and the outside, showing ATO device, LifeReef Skimmer, Aquactinics TX5 T5 fixutre, (mounted two 2x4s to the ceiling for a hanging kit), soft plastic chicken wire for tank cover, and other goodies.

I also thought of siliconing the whole eggcrate piece as to make it a flat surface instead of squares... thoughts?

Well I just purchased an automatic unit that switches all my gear to a battery backup generator in case of power outage, then switches back to AC power when the grid power returns... should last between 2 - 4 hours of uninterrupted power. I considered it a wise investment... considering the cost of what's in the tank!

Would you buy this rock (Fiji/Tonga) for $5 a lb? I found an ad locally for someone who is selling it. What do you all think?

Yes I would, but I would make sure he hadn't used it with copper medications.

Are you serious? The holes are smaller than the eggcrate? Hmmm how do they do this if they are bigger than the hole? I can't seem to stretch it with my hand.

This is what he said when I asked if the rock has been used with copper. Can someone tell me if this is true?

"As long as I have had it, it has never seen copper.

I have also had soft corral, anemones and hard corals in it with no issues.

So I don’t think there has ever been copper."

Some more pictures today.

Getting the baffles ready..

Preparing to silicone it... baffle behind is to keep it aligned.

First two joined successfully!

Another angle..

Some more angles of what's held together... the open area is for the drain pipes to enter and thus the reason for the 2" space at the bottom.... the flat square is to hold the skimmer. It looks messy, but the top is clean, it's held underneath and on the edges by Aquascape epoxy and silicone. I have done more since the pictures were taken and now all gaps are filled.

Here are the lights hanging. Took me a bit to figure out how to loosen the wire lol.

And last but not least... the working RO/DI unit. I didn't think it would be so easy to setup.
