75 Gallon Pictures & Build Thread

Did you view the tank? If there are corals, and inverts in the tank and look to be healthy, then I would not worry.

Nice goodies... It's like Christmas in July :D

Are you serious? The holes are smaller than the eggcrate? Hmmm how do they do this if they are bigger than the hole? I can't seem to stretch it with my hand.

My buddy lost his xmas wrasse through egg crate

There is a thread on an alternative to eggcrate using netting somewhere on here. It looks like it works well, and does not cast shadows.

Just the pictures I posted here. I am going to go look at it in a week or so I guess. It's cheaper than $10/lb at the LFS!!!

He said he prefers a natural "eco" and that there is always about 6 Aiptasia in the tank at any given time with peppermint shrimp eating them.

I am going to separate those rocks and annihilate the aiptasia... no "natural" for me lol Only the best.

I stained the entire woodwork today... looks REALLY nice in person. Will take pictures in a couple days or so... also have 40 gallons of ro/di ready to go.

Have to order some more things...

YAY! I love it when I get stuff in the mail. I'm a big dork like that though. For the RO/DI unit did you run it and not collect water for the first 10 gallons? Mine stated to do that, something about getting the membranes wet and "priming" them.

Yup :)... Ran it for 2 hours before I started collecting.

I measured my netting... it takes 4 holes in the netting to equal 1 hole of eggcrate... it would have to be a mighty small fish with a mighty big will to get through these holes I'm thinking

Only one way to find out :D

I'm loving my phosban reactors, you may want to pick up two. One for phosban and the other for activated carbon (or chemipure).

I'm not familiar with those to be honest. I am assuming that phosban has to deal with phosphates? I was planning to run a refugium filled with chaeto.

You may want to get a second hob overflow i started with one in my 120 with a mag 7 and had to get a second one because it was flooding the tank. just a thought

I wouldn't recommend hooking one up until you need one. I didn't hook mine up for a while, and when I did I hooked one up with carbon first (2 months in). I didn't hook up phophate removal (GFO) media until 3 months in.

I had a refugium running, and didn't want to starve it off the bat. Also, I wanted to see how effective the fuge would be removing/controlling phosphates before adding it.

Don't forget, if your return pump is pushing water into the tank faster than your overflow can handle, a simple ball valve on the return line will help balance it at.

You're doing great so far though

Yea since I had one overflow I just ordered another one this time around. A future tank will be reef ready I'm sure. I also do have a ball valve on the return pump so I will be able to control the flow. Hopefully it can run on max power. It is a Mag 7.

The walls and trim and stained but I had to use a Gel stain on the trim because it was MDF board.... but it didn't out nice so I'm waiting for it to dry and am just going to paint it.

More pictures soon!

I still cant get over the fact of your ''little'' leap from a 75g build to a 125g in wall set-up!

But hey, totally worth it though! It's starting to look amazing!

After looking at "reef ready" tanks, and the amount of space in the tank the stock overflow boxes take up. Any of my future tanks will be purchased un-drilled, and I'll fabricate my own overflows. This way you can situate it according to your liking, and make sure they take up minimal space in the tank.

Also, the plumbing method that I used on my tank (Bean's method) works great, runs silent, and has a few backup/failsafes to prevent accidental flooding.

But like Al said, man what a jump to the 125g, and I am really impressed with how fast this project is coming together. Good work
