8 foot peninsula Tunze placement

Please don't laugh when I mention which pumps I have, as they are the older ones. I just purchased a 375 gallon, 8 foot x 30 inch x 30 inch peninsula and will be using 3x6100 and 2x6201 for flow. (for now) My questions are, is this enough for sps, clams, lots of fish, and where would the best placment be? I'd love to operate all pumps from the overflow box - which is the only non viewable panel. If I do this (will it work) should the 6201's be at the bottom or near the top and same for the 6100's. The return is a Dart and it will be fully open.

Thanks!

P.S. I will be running the 6201's and 2 6100's on the 7096 controller and 1 6100 on a single controller. What do I want to do with the 7096 as far as controls?

The 6201's have a 30" wide flow pattern so I would place them about 12" from the top to avoid stirring up the sand too much. I would probably use at least one 6100 in a Stream rock on the other side as the pumps only reach about 7ft and the flow on the far end will be fairly weak. I think 2 6201's on one side and 1 or 2 6100's on the other would be the ideal and I would just use Pulse mode so one side is on high and the other is on low.

You could but on a tank this size it will require the pumps be run in inverse wave mode opposing each other. This is necessary because the pumps alone are not near as efficient as the wavebox.

Can you post pic of your tank....

Again, it's 96x30x30 and is not in it's 'final resting spot' in the pics. It is placed there until I'm done sanding it, and THEN it will go to it's permanent location. ;)

Thanks for the interest!

NIceee,,, Please keep posting pics and you progress... I 'll be doing the same setup too.. Can i see pics of the overflow. Where are the drainage ?? on the side or bottom? and what size ???

Thanks

Roger, what happens in your opinion if I add a wavebox to the lineup?

1 wavebox
2 6201's
3 6100's

Where would you place each? Would the wavebox entention be necessary? Would you sell the 6100's and get another 6201 or 2? Thanks!

I will have a similar tank 96x36x27
but right now i have a 96x24x30 with one 6205 on each side its creating so much vortex on the middle of the tank and the sand are being blown so much i have to turn the power down to 50 and 80 percent using apex controller. I think you should trade the 3 6100 for a 6305.just my opinion
btw its that pacificreef's tank?

I don't think you need that much. I would suggest the wavebox, it is great for getting flow to every nook and cranny and suspending detritus, but I would keep either the 3 6100's or 2 6201's and just add the wavebox.

If I am correct the tank is about 375 gallons? The wavebox should work on it's own but the extension would create a bigger wave, which honestly I don't think you have the room for so I would just go with the single wavebox.

Do you think if I add 2 more 6201's to have 4 and the wavebox would be too much? Honestly? (375 gallon 96x30x30)

And if I were to buy a controller that controlls the Tunze's (APEX?) would you recommend that or just keep them on the 7096 multicontroller? Does the 7096 have better controls than a controller?

Thanks!

Hmmm, more Tunze questions from the PITA himself! I got my hands on another wavebox for free...but no pump. Could I put a 6201 inside a wavebox shell? If so, what do I need to do to 'sync' them? Lastly, the shell I received does not have the plastic top piece to enclose the box. It's not the end of the world, but where do I go about getting a replacement top?

Thanks!

The 7096 is designed for the stream pumps so would be my preference. The parts you need to build the wavebox are available from www.tunze.com go to the wavebox instruction manual for a list of all parts required.
I would use the new 6215x.200 pump for the wavebox.

It is possible to use the 6201, you would want the 6212.300 foam though to keep the pumps from knocking around in the box. The 6091 or 7096 can sync the waveboxes with the slave channel.

Hi,

Just stumbled across this, tampa, nice to see what you are working with. Just a couple thoughts....not sure what you have avaailable for pumps now. in my opinion I think you will need 2 waveboxes. In my 300 (72x36x27) I needed 2 boxes. I have a 6212 and the other pump is actually smaller I believe. It is a transformed electronic turbelle pump w/ a stream impellor and stream intake. Roger would know better but I think it probably has the flow characteristics of a 6101. This gives me a very nice wave...probably about 1-1.5".

I would set the 2-6201's up in the back corners shooting diagonally across the tank to the front corners. If you need higher flow in spots you can add the 6100's along the backpanel.

to control them I don't know if a controller/Apex will run a wavebox??? With the 7096 you should have no problem using channel 3&4 for the waveboxes and 1&2 w/ a splitter to get you 2 waveboxes and 4 streams if needed. If you need to split channels 1&2 I would keep channel 1 for left side streams and channel 2 for the right side streams so you can get tidal effect. I'd also try and keep everything on the 7096 as well so everything stays in sync.

I read also where Roger recommended the foam. I'll get that out to you, I forgot it w/ the box. Another thing that could work real well if you end up using more than 2 streams is to use the 7096 for the streams and put the waveboxes on a 6091 controller. This may get you the biggest storm mode effect.

Just a quick update as I'm going out for the whole day (bringing the kids to Sea World to see Shamu lol)...

I sold off the 3 6100's. I have 4 6201's and 2 waveboxes. Well 1 wavebox and 1 shell w/ no pump. That's why I asked if I bought ANOTHER used 6201, if it would work in the wavebox shell that I am getting from you Chad. Don't forget, this is a peninsula...so placement will be tricky. I just felt better having 4 6201's and the wavebox rather than 2 6201's. I actually haven't purchased the 'other 2' 6201's yet, but I have dibs. The same seller also has 6305's for sale reasonably cheap. So I might (MIGHT) do the 2 6201's, wavebox and 2 6305's. I'm just not sure if the 6305's and 8,000+gph will be too much on a 96x30x30 tank.

Lastly, how do all of these large flow pumps (if I go the route of 4x6201') affect the wavebox???
