90 gallon, 2-175 MH, 2-110 VHO, can I keep Maximas or Croceas?

I'm sure all you clam experts know the answer to this, but I'm thinking about getting into clams and want to learn before I go killing these beautiful animals. I have searched this forum and haven't found anyone with my setup. I know to get Daniel Knop's book before I buy any animals, but I'm wondering about the lighting. I'm sure it's in the book as well. In a couple months, it will be time for a bulb change. I'm debating on going up to 250W MHs. I currently run 2-175W MHs and 2-110W VHO actinics. The tank is a standard AGA 90 gallon, 24" deep. Sand bed is 1.5 - 2". Will maximas and croceas do well under this light or should I go upto 250W?

The first clam purchase will probably be a good 6 months from now to give me time to do more research and read that book. I'm just wanting to get some suggestions on the lights so I have plenty of time to correct the situation if needed.

Is there an "Ultimate Clam Lighting System?" Meaning, what is the best combination of ballast, bulb, wattage, etc.?

Thanks for your help.

IMO & IME with a 90 gal, I would go with the 250 mogal or if you can spend more, then go with the HQIs. More intense the better.:)

I agree. Go for 250 HQI. Your corals and future clams would be MUCH happier! Then sell your 175s here on RC and you'll make back a bunch of the expense!

More light the better. But, if you are limited because of cooling concerns or electic bill then you could also consider keeping deresa clams since they are more light tolerant.

Many folks also 'feed' their clams with phyto and nanno planktons.
