900 Gallon Reef Project

Lights are fantastic never seen any thing like that on a home reef. Thanks for sharing you are one lucky man to be able to watch that tank when ever you want.

I have it programmed to have 5 clouds and one 30 minute thunderstorm each day. The amount of things I can setup is amazing. I can set 265 different intensity %s for the lights over the 10 hours they are on, also it does full moonlight simulation. These things are amazing.

Awesome thread and build! Glad to see some of the little issues seemed to have been resolved.

If you had to do it over, what would you do differently?

If you had to do it over, what would you do differently?

1. I would not have used Bio Pellets at the start.

2. I would have gone 5 feet from front to back instead of 4.

3. I would have designed the aquascaping differently.

4. I would have waited for this generation of LED lighting.

5. I would have run my skimmer intakes outdoors from the start.

On your next video, or next time you get the camera out, do you mind sharing a little more of your equipment room?

you never got a picture of the Kalk reactor, and i was wondering how the refugium above the sump is going.

On a side note, where did you get your Sump?
MRC is the only place i have see use the white poly for sumps. and how is it still working for you?

Thanks!

For my new 180 I am looking at going barebottom. I now am thinking it would be awesome to use tile on the back and bottom like your back is, and just silicone it all down. Have you had any problems with it, and do you think it would work as a base as well??

I have had no problems using the tile. I just wish I had done the same thing under the sand as well, it would have looked great.

Lowes didn't have limestone so I went with a nice sand colored ceramic. Should look good I think. How did you go about attaching it to the glass? Just silicone? These tiles have the hatching on the back so that the grout would hold better. Did you cover the entire thing with silicone so that there was no air trapped, or just the edges?

Ceramic may not do the job you are looking for. I would look for a natural limestone tile, you may not get the coraline growth/coral attachment otherwise. I would be very careful of anything I put in the tank. Send me a PM and I will look to see if I can send you the excess tile I have.

I was looking back thru the thread again and was looking at the sump. On the return lines from the tank, when they enter the sump you have the lines going under water, then also the are 'T-ed' off with portions above water too. Is this to elimate bubbles from entering the sump or is it a safety precaution. If it is to eliminate bubbles, how well does it work?
