It happened to my tank last night- a malfuncting thermostat made the furnace run all day, making my place 104F which caused the tank to heat up to 99F. Needless to say, about everything is dead except two clownfish, a damselfish and some hermits. I'm very bummed about this, not just the loss of $$$, but more so that the beautiful creatures I enjoyed have been killed, and to replace them means more harvesting from the oceans. Ugh. I'll really be looking forward to the BAR frag swap in Feb.
My question is should I take out all the dead corals, and remove the rocks to scrape them of the dead/ decaying critters and put the rocks back in so I can reuse them when I upgrade to my larger tank? I'd like to salvage the rocks, even if they've reverted back into 'base' rock. I figure I'll be making plenty of water changes to keep the remaining critters alive.
