I know for a fact the female is indeed a chrysopterus but the smaller juvi I'm still unsure of. They get along well..which is good but I'm still questioning the ID of the juvenile.

Here is some pictures

when I first got him

A picture I took of him today. notice his tail looks a little more black.

with the female.

Look at her teeth..good thing these aren't known to bite the hand that feeds them. :)

As long as they are getting along I guess it wouldn't really matter if the male isn't a chrysopterus. I still am curious... oh well enjoy the bad pics lol.

Wow Christina - I have no idea but they are REALLY pretty! :)

Congrats on some beautiful fish - I'm glad they're doing so well for you!

How big are they?

A. Carkii.

nice chrys though. I have tried four times to keep a pair. the longest I have had one live was for 3 months. I have given up on them.

Thanks Kim..The juvi male is almost 2 inches and the female is a little bit bigger than a female adult ocellaris.
FTS of the 29QT..

They seem to really like their fake aquascape.

I'm going to be pretty angry bluezoo if its a clarkii, they are so much cheaper than a chrysopterus. Why do you have trouble keeping chrysopterus? I have had these two since april 3rd. I had to treat them with cupramine because they had ich. They have been free from ich for a month and a half now.

I'm interested in this too Christina for you.

Only 1 response from stykthyn.

Does anyone else have an opinion or is it for sure a clarki?

I am awful at ID's. But, if it will help at all, here is a half way decent picture of my Clarkii pair.

The male has the yellowish highlights on his tail.

the second stripe on my male isn't that thick..I may have to wait longer to get a positive id.. Am I just seeing things? Does it look like his tail is more blackish in the second picture or do I need to get my eyes checked?..lol

I so want your green haddoni :p

I don't think you need to get your eyes checked, at least not because of this. ;)

The second stripe on your male does look thinner then mine. Though, my pair is at least 7 years old.

You should shoot him a PM.

Oh, and when I first saw your pictures I was going to give you a hard time about your decorations in your tank, but then you said it was your QT tank. :)

 I think it looks pretty good for a QT ..I use to have pvc pipes in there but they never used them ..so I thought a fake aquascape would make the couple more comfortable and it did. :D

Looks like a Clarkii to me, as well. The dark tail is usually an identifying point for a Clark's, but the later pictures look like the tail is white?

The male (juvre) has always looked the same and is about an inch inch and a half long.
this is the male (juve) top when I first got it

And recently, (the tail is still mostly dark) the time frame between these is 7 months.

based on these photos i would say very likely you have a juvenile clarks 9or other clarks complex juvenile that is NOT chrysopterus) and a larger chrysopterus. I could be wrong of course.

btw the split fins on the male is a common occurance as the female is an absolubt rotter, they have not grown much or really truely paired in 7 months, I will persevre though as the aggression is less, I keep them now with a mono (fingerfish) in a large tank they seemed to have found harmony in both smashing the mono.

If it makes you feel any better, here's a picture of the clarkii I got from bluezoo recently. It doesn't look anything like yours, but they do come in other color morphs.
