A DREAM comes true build thread

thanks dave I really enjoy STRS and all the members advice and help. The LED fixture is aquailluminations and is an awesome light. Im very pleased with my decision to go LED. My tank is torn down but was a 90 gal reef. I still have a few pics of it but it isn't anything special. I also have a nano that is holding my livestock and a friend is also holding some SPS for me. I also have about 3 QT tanks up and running with different types of wrasses in them. All destined for the DT. Thanks for your comments they mean a bunch! I really enjoy hearing what people think and my progress.

-SOLRNY yep they are awesome lights im very happy with them. thanks for your comments and id like to hear any other thoughts concerns ect. please Ive been waiting for a looooong time! lol

Really sweet tank! What made you go with a canopy vs hanging a fixture with a rimless? How is heat with those covers, and do they get splashed? Do you think you will be fighting saltwater/crud buildup clouding the lighting.

Hey Adam that's a good question! It dosent splash or
Anything so i don't think it will get salt creep up there. The LEDs give
Off almost no heat. As for the canopy it's not a rimless tank, it's euro braced and has
Covers but the covers have a little space for air to flow. The only
Thing I'm not crazy about it seeing the water line but I
Guess I'll deal ! Well see about the salt creep only time will twll

I think I answered everything? if not let me know oh and it was your tank that inspired me to go bigger. thank you

Aww man didn't even notice the water line had to go back to the pictures and look for it. If it does start wearing on you just make it so that canopy sets down lower and covers it up. I know that kind of defeats the purpose of rimless tank. Or you could turn it into a hanging canopy and fill it a little more so there is just barely a line. It doesn't look bad though and I think all in all great job

thanks dave! i am really working diligently to get it looking good. This summer has been so hectic so haven't really had the time i wanted to put into it.

I was wondering why you are using 4 mp40's? I have never looked in to them before. I guess I don't understand how they work exactly. What I have seen it says it will do 50 to 500gals. I know this is a dumb question, because I don't think one head can do 500 gals. Does one driver run all 4? Thanks in advance for the help on this.

it does something like 4000 GPA , there has also been a new study out proving they actually under advertise the flow rate and it is really more than advertised, the same is not true for competitors. you can check the study out at r33fbuilders dot com. as for why i have them? I got them in stages not all at once, and some are used. They also are because my goal is to have an SPS dominated reef and understand the importance of true randomized patterns of flow. I may move 2 onto the back all but id first like to see how they are like this for now.

that's amazing thread RJ42! great job on sump and stand!!! :bounce3: I have some questions for you:

1) in your sump, the water comes from the two overflow boxes to the first chamber on the sump, after that thru the holes goes to skimmer session, thru the baffles to return chamber and comes back to DT, right?

2) on your DT, what approach are you doing to 'eliminate' gurgling noise on overflow boxes, something like bean animal or HGB style?

btw, you're a wrasse addicted, uh?! :fish2:

Euler- 1) yes that is how the water flows.
2) my tank was built with built in overflow covers as well as access hole covers. They muffle the noise well, that coupled with adding a 12" piece of threaded pvc , the water only drops 12 inches instead of 24 to the hole drain. My tank is pretty silent but I would like 0 noise. i am also going to get something called a maggie muffler , (mainly so fish don't get in the overflow then get lost in the sump.) and yes i am addicted to wrasses they are truly amazing fish. Love the flashers and the faries! oh and awesome build thread yourself bud its amazing. cant wait to see the outcome.

oh where to start! I have a few new fish in QT but am waiting until they are nice and healthy swimming in the DT to name names. A few more weeks!
