A few of my SPS

Greg!! That is horrible news.. I hope the rtn was isolated to only the few pieces..
This hobby is so crazy..
Good luck, Greg, I hope you can find and fix the problem..

No good news, I have lost 20+ colonies of SPS from whatever is causing the RTN. :thumbdown

Oh Greg... I'm really sorry to hear this. Really.
This is totally sick..
One day your tank is doing phenomenal and the next, it's spiraling out of control.
This is every reefer's nightmare..
I feel terrible for you..

Oh no Greg! :( Are you doing anything to try to stop it? Maybe dose some bacteria? Do you use biopellets?

Greg,
I am sorry to hear about the losses man, hang in there, hopefully you will reverse this situation in short order. Do you have backups with local reefing buddies? For fear of this happening to me, I am seriously thinking about a backup tank that has a frag of all my colonies in the main tank, ughh.... sucks to hear this!

with some I do but - I am getting tired of growing corals from frags that I grew from frags that I previously grew from frags. "ain't nobody got time fo that"

Are the losses random in the display or localized to a specific area? Greg I sure hope you can get this figured out and stop the damage.
Any coral that was touching a coral the RTN'd got taken out as well. But it is still pretty random.

Sorry Greg, I hope you can figure it out.
Thanks me too

Terrible news:sad2:
PITA

I don't want to use biopellets - never had good luck with them in the past. What will dosing bacteria do?

That is the sps game but it can be very tiring!

Greg,
"ain't nobody got time fo that" is too funny, lol... Seems as if you understand the term redundancy, I would expect that from a long time TOTM hobbyist, I mean, I am sure this is not your first rodeo, so to speak... I am glad that you can find humor even though I am sure you are pis*ed off, another day on the reef I suppose :) I am seriously planning out a new tank build down the road, it will be based on all my learned mistakes, hopefully I will get it to where yours is, was, and likely will be again, and again, and again :)

Greg, I'm sorry to hear that your troubles continue. This hobby can sure be tough sometimes. Best of luck, I hope it turns around for you soon.

Sorry to hear this bad news Greg. I have always admired this tank. I just went thru a total loss myself, about 25 frags, colonies wiped out, so can understand the frustration. In my case there was nothing to blame, all params spot on, no pests anywhere so guessing either a bacterial infection or some element I don't test for. Took me a few months to get any desire back but finally decided to move on and keep rebuilding. Like the hobby too much to quit. I hope you get it stopped and it can all be just a distant memory soon. You guys and girls north of the border grow some amazing corals.

I was asking about biopellets because I thought you used them and I was wondering if there may be excess bacteria load in the tank from using biopellets or some other source of carbon dosing. Any other carbon dosing you do? "Random" RTN has recently been suspected to be linked to bacteria. As in, over time there may slowly become an abundance of bad bacteria in the tank in relation to good bacteria to the point where colonies become overwhelmed and start to RTN. I know there have been some people that have been speculating whether carbon dosing for good bacteria also increases bad bacteria population. Dosing some good bacteria (without carbon dosing) theoretically may help. I like the Prodibio products. This is all speculation and theory right now, not a lot of evidence yet, but I think it's worth a shot for you, and I don't think there would be any downside to trying.

Thanks it seems to be slowing down although I am out of town with work so we'll see for sure when I get home.

Thanks, I know things will turn around. Now I really need to find a fish that will eat mojanos & leave corals alone.

I don't carbon dose at all so no bio-pellets. :hammer:
I tried Prodibio a few years ago but it was a pain to keep up with in a large system and results were inconclusive. Thanks for the bacteria tip- I may try that if things don't improve. I honestly think my biggest problem is being too busy to keep up with the maintenance schedule needed for this system.
Since April I have taken 3 vacations (away for 2 weeks x2 + 10 days = 38 days) plus having to travel with work = another 25ish ---- so in reality when added up there has been a good couple of months worth of away time.

This is terrible....but on a more positive note, that reference was awesome LMAO......

Thanks for that - too funny!
