A Great Way to ruin a perfect wall; My 400 Gallon Project

how much is this all costing? it sounds like it is going to be an incredible tank when its all set up.

If you have to ask, then too much ;) I would say at this point (and he is not even done) he is probably easily at 10 - 12k, if not more...

Melev,

I am about 3 hrs from Dallas, looking for a good fish store that will care for all my needs, any suggestings???

Tranquil Scape is pretty good - they're in Arlington. Really nice guys, great customer service, good selection of SPS + LPS, GREAT selection of zoanthids, but not too many fish.

Fish Gallery, in Dallas, has a decent selection but their customer service leaves a little to be desired. Their prices are about average. Good SPS selection, lots of LPS and softies. Fair bit of fish.

These are my main two. If you go to www.dfwmas.org, there's a list of LFS in the Metroplex.

Hi Servo,

We have been watching your progress. Very Nice! We are possibly planning similar construction. Not as big, but similar. Question: Curious with the AC unit. Have you ran it enough to see if you get any type of condensation in the room or the garage?

PS: If you do find out that you don't need your chiller, keep us in mind. We will be interested.

 Sorry bulldogfish

The lighting is weird in this "corner". Since the back of the house (east) is all windows, there is a weird overcast and it gives the illusion of "darkness". It is actually, less light (yah I know that's pretty obvious statement). I am NOT a photographer, and I have tried almost everything to get these pictures a little lighter. It isn't dark enough for a flash, and autoflash looked REALLY bad. So I make no appologies for the pictures, but for the countless requests for macros of the framing, here you go.

***NOTE**** If someone knows of another "free" internet server for photos (besides photobucket) let me know, that way I won't have to delete any pictures once I get some live stock.

As far as updates are concerned. I have picked up a bunch of salt and reordered a new R/O membrane (6 months of not using it has cost me $100 more dollars on top of what I already have).

I have ordered all of my plumming needs (hopefully), and I should get that done this week? Hopefully, I'll get to post those long waited pictures.

lostreefermike: How much is this costing you ask, a hell of a lot more than I would have been able to afford when I was living in Hamtramck!!! It is nice to see people post from my old stomping grounds. I spent a lot of time in Livonia, Redford, Garden City et al. in the early 1990's. I miss Pet Connection and Tropicorium.:(
Anyway, when we were negotiating the price on our house, I had our realator negotiate the construction of a fish room. All of the construction hasn't cost me a thing, but I bet a job of this proprotion would cost around 10-12K. With that in mind this would probably cost about 25K. Do you still want a big tank? And to think, this is only 400 gallons!

Dork Fish:lol: I have ran the A/C unit in spurts, and haven't had any problems, the true test is yet to come.

Ryan,

I use www.imageshack.us a fair bit. You don't have to register to host (I never have) but I'm not sure how long they'll host your pictures. If you sign up they might give you a fixed amount of space, but you'd have to look into that.

Wow!!!!!:eek2: :eek2: :eek2: What a nice setup you have there. I can't imagine all the planning that you have had to do. I especially like that custom sump of yours. When you get it plumbed I would love to see some pics.

No problem,

It is actually pieced together. The facade, sides, ledge and trim are all fabricated and masterfully spliced together. You can't tell can you? I really like how there is NO gap at the bottom base of the tank against the ledge. If anyone lives in the DFW metroplex the carpenter is Matt Awbrey and is for hire. PM me for his contact info

Ryan, I know you said free, but ipowerweb.com costs $96 a year for a ton of space and bandwidth. You guys come up with a domain name that you like (and that is actually available) such as RyansMermaid.com and they will get you all set up.

You'll be able to FTP all your images to your own webspace that will always be available. I never delete old images from my sites, that way no matter what thread or email or newsgroup post is viewed, the images should still appear years later.

Melev's Reef has been using an average of 80gigs a month of bandwidth since January '05. I'm allowed 95.5 gigs (in January, I used 95 gigs!) each month, but I got in during a special offer. Odds are you'll only be needing 2 gigs a month, tops and their plan will cover that by 20x that amount.

I am curious, how thick it the glass and is it tempered? Do you have holes dirlled in the tank for a closed loop, or are you going to run it from the overflows?

I have heard that with gmail or yahoo mail accounts, you can post some photos or web pages there somehow. Yahoo has 1 gig, and gmail has over 2 gig. I am not sure if it works for things other than email messages.

Maybe someone else knows.

chiller

chiller

Please correct me if I'm wrong, But....

I think your planning on putting the chiller inside the fish room?
So your going to take heat from the tank, put inside the same room that the tank is in. Then take the heat from the room and move it into the garage by way of the AC unit. Why not just bypass the inherint ineffiecies of that and plumb the chiller into the garage.

I actualy plumbed my chiller outside the house. Yes it runs longer because the outside is hotter than the inside. But the house ac runs much less. And im not using electricity to heat the air, then chill it.

Ryan/Servo has got it set up so that their is a ventilation fan right behind the chiller, sucking the output out as quickly as it's produced.

His garage hits about 110-120 during the heat of the day, so having a chiller there would be pretty worthless. Once you hit the mid-90s chiller performance makes a big nose dive.
