A Great Way to ruin a perfect wall; My 400 Gallon Project

uh-oh!! I probably never should've pointed out your avatar in the beginning cuz people might not have ever noticed then (sorry!!)

As for the rock, if it is a beauty underneith, you 'might' try some little Rainford gobies. Not sure you'd want to, but, I started to have the first ever hair algae on my sea swirls a couple weeks ago, and the little guys started eating it. One got such a big mouthful I thought he'd literally choke. Maybe put them in a small tank with it for a while and then move it and them back in the main one? Just a thought, though probably not the way you'd want to go.

Anyways, I for one will be VERY interested on hearing the baby side of things when the day happens!!

Hey Ryan if you let me know maybe we can work out our schedules so that I can help you put that big rock in your tank. Me and three other guys had to pick up a 500+ lb guy off the floor the other day at work, so maybe 50 lbs with the two of us might be possible.

Ryan, I remember the avatar that had to do with Jedi OBGYN or something. Is that what you guys are referring to? I thought it was pretty funny actually.

Hey, if Chris helps move that rock, you can just adjust his back once done. :D

That is the beauty of this site, you can pick and choose what others have done and pick the best of all ideas for what is right for you.

Well, since we're in the mood for confessions...your tank was the inspiration for mine. I pulled a bunch of your pics back to work out how I wanted the outside to look.

So...thanks. :) (But tell anyone else that and I'll deny everything ;) )

This thread has been alot of fun to continue to put together. When I had so many logistical problems in the beginning, it was somewhat therapeutic for me!:p It is nice to laugh about it now.

I have yet to hit the laughing stage at my mistakes... :D

I hope that you can have an in wall that is perfect for you. Feel free to post any questions that you have. If I don't get to them first, someone else will!

Guess I should have been asking along the way...I love how you set up the lid in the front. I took a little different route though.

The bottom line to learn from all of these posts is that a beautiful reef takes time and careful planning, while a ton of patience is paramount. A little bit of spare cash (sometimes a lot of bit
) helps too!

Good Luck!

I agree fully...tons of knowledgeable people here. As for the cash bit...tell me about it. :rolleye1:

Servo, just for piece of mind, I would highly recommend a sprinkler system. I too lived a horror story, and to make things worse, the tank was at my parent's house. Murphy's Law; I was in the academy, parental units were out of town for the holidays, and a wire from a PH decided to go. Needless to say, my folks came home to a smokey house w/ my room destroyed. Luckily 75 gallons of saltwater was enough to extinguish the fire. My upcoming in-wall tank shares a wall w/ the laundry room w/ a sprinkler head right above it. Just my 2 cents. Your tank is coming along beautifully! Also, is that cloroplast the same material that comes in 'clear' for greenhouses/hothouses?

SVTour, looks GREAT!

I too am going to borrow Servo's trim design for my in-wall. What an excellenct looking job!

Wow! Your inwall Looks AWESOME!!!!! I am really honored that my thread was able to help you get ideas for your project. So the door leads to the fish room right? Looks pretty cool. I like how you painted the room blue to simulate a "backdrop". Now do you have front access with your inwall? The facade almost looks like it slides? But, I'm guessing of course.

Yep...my front access is a little different than yours though. The strip above the panels comes off (as it's only connected by magnets) and then the doors hinge up individually.

One of these days I'm going to update my thread on how I did it...but I'm still trying to get the 'behind the scenes' up and running.

So did you get the wavebox hooked up yet? Where are the pics? I mean it's been over 2 months since a post and all you've had is a kid, come on :)

be careful with those mermaids, they breed easily in captivity

Boy he wasn't kidding!

Yah, so I'm probably the only guy that has had a Tunze Wave box sitting around on my shelf for 4 months.:eek1: Nope, I haven't hooked it up yet, because of the shortage of magnets. I am waiting to get that and a new 6100.

I did make overflow covers! That was progress. At least I had some time to do something. Damn my nipples are killin me from all of this breast feeding LOL.

I also bought some Ozone and haven't messed with that. I am still going to hook it up despite all of the inuendo's. Unfornately, i purchased the Red sea unit with the built in controller and they sent me the wrong one

:mad2:

I am also comtemplating about hooking up a bigger skimmer. (You have made me jealous Keith; yours is bigger!) And I am about 70% certain that I am going to change my Calcium reactor. I have never been really happy with it and my Calcium stays around 360 with my Alk at 3.5

So, I will be doing some things soon. My tank will be featured on the next DFW tank tour this spring and I want it to look as impressive as possible, so......maybe I'll get off of my can and make some progress:lol:

Thanks for following along.

Oh yah, I am even contemplating on getting two HQI 20 K halides to suppliment my current lights. I wan't to see how the air unit handles the blazing heat here. Remember, I really didn't have everything up and running until last September. This system is still a baby as well!:D

Thanks!!

Well here are some more "new editions"!

I finally got my controller! I need to get the energy to put it togeter!

P3160013.jpg

I also finally got a TDS meter. That will be MUCH easier to hook up.

P3190026.jpg

Unfortunately, That Fish Place sent me the wrong Ozone Unit! I ordered the aquazone Deluxe and they sent me the standard 200mg/hr. The box was checked Delux, but I think that some bastage switched the units  .

Anyway, I can float the ORP probe Right?

I finally got my Reef Lightsaber! My swing arm is pretty damn accurate! I am a first to say that! I've been using the same one since 1998! I figured that it would become a little "off".

I also built overflow boxes. I had (past tense) a little algae problem in the overflows. Not anymore!!

So who out there has the ACIII? Any suggestions, comments or recommendations? LMK I'm ALL EARS!!!
