A little advise.

I think sk8r has multiple damsels in a 90-something gallon tank and they do well. I don't think you need 100 gallon tank it's just picking the right combination. Though you are supposed to add the most agressive fish last I am not sure what the OP has planned for the tank.

105 gallon. Depends on the damsel. Clowns are homebodies and are ok in smallish tanks, one chromis or azure or yellowtail is fine in a 55. A 10 gallon qt is fine with damsels if they're the only fish in there. They're all about their 'sleeping holes', and until they establish a place to run to when it's lights-out or a predator comes by, they're real nervous. They'll fight to the death over those holes. When you get into multiples of damsels, and certain species of damsels, you need more room: the more aggressive ones are the dascyllus species, such as dominoes and stripes, and also the blue velvet (actually a black fish, go figure) is a pita---and they need to be in 100 gallons and more. Also some species are in danger from these pushy types.

Sounds as if you're doing ok.

[note: except red clowns, tomatos, etc---they get big]

Thanks sk8r!!! I have a yellowtail, so a 75 should be ok? After seeing a friends dominated damsel tank I wanted one :)
I know that wasn't extremely smart, but if I don't absolutely love him after qt, I may return him. Also, he hasn't eaten since I got him. I know this is normal, but I have tried PE mysis and NLS pellets. Any tips?

He found the PVC last night and is hiding in it.

Your yellowtail should be fine in a 75. I'd make him the ONLY damsel, honestly, but there are some colorful types that you can get to go with him---maybe one blue-green chromis, and a royal gramma; firefish; yellow watchman---all those will get on ok. Maybe a starry blenny---they're funny, and change from camo to brown pinto to dark with stars real fast.

Ive got a chalk bass that doesn't take any guff, they're easy fun fish.
I've heard that rearranging the rocks can help make up for adding a too aggro fish before everyone is settled. But idk, maybe that would just start up the fighting all over again?

A lot of lfs start people off with damsels, I think it's leftover from back in the day when people didn't cycle their tanks before they stocked them. Damsels got a good rep for surviving ammonia toxicity more or less intact.

He will be the only damsel, if I decide to keep him. Starry blennys are a favorite too :)
He still hasn't eaten....

EDIT: just realized i spelled advice wrong.. :)

Yeah give him time.

I got one Cardinal that eats pellets not flakes. The other one eats flakes not pellets. They both seem to love mysis shrimp. They ate right away but I know they were settled in the LFS over a month. We don't know what this guys been through in the past week.

He has been at the LFS for quite some time, if my memory serves me right. He was basically in an assorted damsels tank.
I have been trying NLS pellets..

I think Tony (Fishin) is right. It's all about time, he'll come around. I have those same pellets. None of my fish would eat the 1mm ones. Too big. I bought the .5mm and those work better. I soak them in tank water so they sink. Just in a small cup. Like I said I have two cardinals from the same LFS one eats pellets the other flakes. Lol.

It's breakfast to order in the morning and mysis buffet at night.

Crap. I have the 1mm ones. Didn't think about that.
Should i get the .5? Or do they go smaller? ImageUploadedByTapatalk1435001500.253229.jpg

I think .5mm is the smallest, not positive though. Everything from my firefish and up will go after the .5mm

Okay, ill pick those up from my lfs as soon as I can get it.
Is it urgent to pick them up? Im super busy today and I don't think I can make it. Can he survive another day without food?

I added an rw-8 for more water flow.

I have the same problem with my fish and the 1mm size. A few of my fish will eat them but my smaller male clown will not. THey all eat the .5mm pellets.

All of my fish eat LRS nano reef frenzy as well as frozen brine and mysis shrimp. NONE of my fish eat flakes

Point is you have to have several food makes and blends until you find what your fish like.

The .5 mm is the smallest and I Suggest you get frozen mysis and frozen brine shrimp as well. You can chop off what you need to feed and it will allow you to give a good mix of things to eat and in most cases unless you get a ton of large fish will last you quite a while.
