A little advise.

I say stick with a good wc schedule, adding the Prime will help it stay clean longer by binding up the poop&pee so nobody has to breathe it rotting in the tank. Until the next change. You can def do both. Specially if you haven't got rodi water, Prime will address the metals in it.

I am using RODI currently...

Tony, I will start adding a dose of prime after each change..

Little dude is comfortable now I think... Readily swims to the surface when I am near.

Cool. All fishes are a bit different personality wise, that is why stocking is as much science as an art IMO. I have had some that cruised around from the get go and others that just hid out the whole time.

So I was at my LFS this morning, because they just got a new shipment..
They have a downright beautiful, and I mean BEAUTIFUL regal angelfish. I think the price tag was around 170$
Just wondering what you guys would think of it in a 75... I wouldn't want to put it in a tank that is too small. Although from the 30 minutes that I researched about it people seem to say it only grows an inch a year, if even that much? One person said it only grew 3 inches in 10 years...
Again, I wouldn't want to make it feel cramped, but I like the regal angel a lot more than the common flame angel...
Also, people seem to say make it the first fish in the tank...
Thoughts?

75 is too small for a regal angel or any other large angel for that matter. Only dwarf Angels in a 75.

Another thing to consider about Angels is their diet. A regal angel is not a fish that can eat pellets forever. They are also not a very easy fish to keep. I would think that a fish that is easier would be better for someone starting off. I only recently started keeping my own saltwater tanks, but have had fish tanks for a long time and worked at lfs as well as being a veterinary technician. And even I don't think that I am ready for a regal angel. They are fairly expensive to begin with, and that would be a hard blow to take if it died. As much as you like them, I think that the regal angel is a fish that you should keep in the back of your mind as a dream fish. You have been doing such a great job, and I wouldn't want you to leave the hobby and give up because you took on too much too fast. Just my 2 cents.

Yes... I know about their difficulty and of course I would not buy one online that I didn't see eat... Steve said to look for a red sea variety, and thats what Ill probably do... It will probably be one of the last fish added to the tank so I still have time to mull it over.. Anyone else have any opinions on the regal?

Most of the dwarf angels will be fine in your set up. But anything bigger would be too small in your set-up.

sorry, angels never really went with what I wanted for my tank. Pretty fish though.

No problem Tony, do you know anyone who could help me out a little??

Thats what I thought too, but I asked steve, on the fish purchases thread. He said a a regal should be fine in the setup, as long as you get a small specimen, as they do not grow very large in captivity. One guy on RC said that his regal grew from 2.5" to 5 " in 10 years...

Other than Steve "Snorvich" try posting in the reef fishes forum and see if either Dmorty or Ca1ore replies.

I think I will get it once my rocks get some algae, since it is a grazer.
Will add about 5 lbs from the LFS though.

Update:
The damsel has only gone into the PVC for sleeping, out and about the rest of the time. Ate crushed up NLS pellets! Very funny to watch him swim around with the pellet in his mouth

Lol my Clowns do this.. it's almost as if they're waiting for the pellet to soften in the water..

Okay. The weirdest thing happened last night. I got home at like 9:30 and looked into the tank with some ambient light... I am not sure if he was sleeping and I just woke him up but he was an extremely dark purple with color loss, and I mean like white, at a couple places on his body.. Is this normal? I haven't heard anyone else say anything like this...

I seem to recall reading quite a long time ago that they will do that when startled or stressed. Is he back to his normal coloring now?

He's asleep. Mine all do the same thing when they're in their holes at night.. colour returns to the vibrant blues and yellows in the morning.

Interesting thing about a royal gramma ( Bit off topic i know), they're a great fish for measuring your water conditions.. Super vivid colour when happy, but dull and washed out looking when the water quality is toilet.
