A little advise.

I think in all seriousness, and this is aimed at BigBlueTang.. Do your research before you buy. Impulse buy's don't always work out.. and some of the guys at the LFS's aren't as knowledgeable as they like to think ( Of course some are, i'm lucky that my fish guy is proper fish geek - he's the oracle! )

I personally like the LiveAquaria.com site for information on fish how much space they need etc etc.. I usually check the LFS stock online beforehand ( As they post up what's new / due in etc ) then i hit the net and make my choice before I get my readies out ;)

Touch wood ( Calm down lol ), I've had a very pleasurable and issue free journey.

Here's a pic of my Damsels all playing nice.. ( I think you can spot 4 in the pic, but there are 6 in total )

Agreed!

I think they are beautiful fish that's why I got the one I did. It was one of the solid blue ones, don't remember the name. I do know that it was very aggressive and for being the smallest fish in my 200 gal fowlr tank.... I don't want to go there.

I think we've beat this to death. BBT can't wait to see your new McCoskers  Oh and make sure you cover that quarantine tank, wrasses are jumpers.

BBT certainly You can call me Tony.

Damsels can be a great fish if given the proper space and tank mates, just like many other fish. IMO where a lot of folks get in trouble is trying to put to many in a smaller tank. They are probably the lowest priced fish and have some really nice color, I think that is why many newer folks go for them.

Lol agreed.. And I don't mean to be a party pooper.. But a wrasse in first? be careful.

Many people have no problem with Wrasse (As with Damsels) but my Xmas wrasse did harass my picasso clown ( And only her ) as she was a late addition.

IMO - I'd personally leave a wrasse as a late edition to the tank, once the community is in place. Hopefully someone else will comment on this.

There are a few different fish that are commonly called christmas wrasse. some of them can be bit on the aggressive side. The McCoskers I have had have always been quite peaceful. Just mt 2 cents worth.

I would normally agree with this but a McCosker's wrasse is a pretty laid back fish. The one you are talking about is pretty aggressive.

This is a reply from a thread I started awhile back about Christmas wrasse from Evolved, they know their wrasses.

What does "Christmas wrasse" mean to you?

Halichoeres biocellatus? Halichoeres ornatissimus? Halichoeres claudia? Or something else (not a Halichoeres)? Thalassoma trilobatum? (definitely avoid this one)

(Avoid H. ornatissimus)

Thats what I thought... I thought there would be no problems?? I was thinking a vroliks wrasse as well in my tank? Any problems?

The damsel still hasn't come off the bottom. I am not sure if he is sick or not..

Jay R, did you QT your damsels? If so did your yellowtail move around a lot?

If your having problems with a damsel still either the fish has problems or you should have cycled the qt tank...check water prams. ..most people use them as fish to cycle there tanks...they are extremely hardy fish...almost impossible to kill

I'm doing uncycled QT on two cardinals and they are extremely active and eating great. I don't think that's the reason.

I am hesitant to give out stocking advice, I would feel bad if it did not work out. I think it would be fine but I would put a list together and run it by Snorvich in the check here before you buy thread.

Ammonia: under .02 by badge. Was higher when I woke up, did a 50% water change. Easy.
Nitrite:0
Didnt test for nitrate
Sg: 1.021
Temp: 77

Numbers look OK maybe your damsel is just a bit shy.
You had me thinking a bit. DK too. I decided to do another water change, just 25%. The effect was instantaneous. Little buddy zoomed out of his PVC, realized he could go to the top of the tank. Really excited now! My Ammonia badge must be crap, API test kit had .05 ammonia. :hmm4::hmm4:

For what it's worth, BBT I think that you are doing a great job. Especially for such a young aquarist. You are researching, qt, asking all the right questions, and It is obvious that you really care about the livestock. I just want to say that it is refreshing and I think that you will do well in this hobby. You also take advice very well. Keep up the good work!
