A little Poll

I saw in that other thread that you guys think we should do a poll. Pretty good idea. Lets just not bash any store and just see the results. I am kind of curious.

Fish selection: Pet Mart
Fish health: Marine Warehouse
Coral selection: FAOIS
Coral health: FAOIS
Customer service: Pet Mart
Dry goods: Pet Mart

Think of any other categories... throw em on.

As was discussed at the club meeting this past weekend, we (the club that this forum was created for) would like these LFS posts to stop. In the 5 years I have been frequenting this forum, I can't remember a single one that didn't degrade into hostility.

The club is putting together an objective list of stores that will be stickied. There is no need to continue these discussions. All of the recommendations from virtually every active member in this forum can be found by searching.

I have just got to make it to pet mart if they have a better fish selection and heathier fish than John or the Chris's have must be pretty spectacular:hmm5:

Best fish store: the GULF :p

I'm going off topic to make it more fun. I'm at Indian Rocks Beach where I've been for the last 5 days. You guys are going to have to help me identify some things when I get back and take pics for the class.

I have caught what I believe is a juvenile lookdown about the size of a quarter (it is SOOO cool...has these long skinny "hairs" coming off it's head where I thought he was stuck in seaweed but it was HIM and his fins look like big beautiful fans).

Also, found 2 little angelfish guys. I don't know if they are young triple tails, or actually angelfish. They are brown with some pretty blue spots and a stripe by their head.

Also found 2 types of tiny puffers. One blew up and I had NO idea it was a puffer because it was so soft and round, and I couldn't find it's eyes or tail 'til the reflection from the sun. I thought it was some egg sac, lol.

I wanted lots of hermit crabs for my tanks at school. Remember these aren't reef tanks so they can eat what they want to keep it clean and fun. In the bunches of seaweed are literally 30-50 tiny 2mm long hermits. They are SOO cute and they all have the prettiest little shells. I just don't know where I'm going to find the next size shells for them because they are reallllllly tiny.

Also some crazy baracuda looking things but they are a little fatter and colored like the sand with LOTS of tiny razor teeth.....scary.

We're going out one more time this morning. We've been catching lots of baby pompano and herring and whiting. Hopefully we'll find some fun things :)

Life Oceanic and ...

Life Oceanic and ...

whose the young guy that works at Pet Mart?

actually I was at a generic national pet chain store of forgettable name (Pet Smart?) across from the Citrus Mall and I noticed a few fish for my new 40 reef are a bit cheaper than the sloppy but otherwise interesting store, also of forgettable name (Pet Mart?), that is near me on Busch and 50th

one thing I noticed in 2 pet stores this weekend, was that went somebody is setting up a new tank, they often grab the almost 50-year old under gravel filter technology, which is such a poor biological, mechanical and chemical filter compared to a Marineland hang on the tank (HOT) outboard power filter with wet/dry bio-wheels and vertical carbon chamber. Most marine specialty stores do not even stock UG filters anymore (‘course, I don’t see the need for the expensive sumps arrangement either)...

otherwise, when I have been price shopping for activated carbon, saltwater mix and live rock, Life Oceanic, down in Apollo Beach (Rustin), had the lowest prices

Prolly Petco. PetSmart (not to be confused with PetMart) doesn't carry saltwater fish.

It's all about the toys!!

Plus, I like the aesthetic look of having my equipment hidden, but that's totally a 'for looks' thing.

It wasn't actually a poll. They were my opinions and I was hoping to see everyone else's opinions in what they thought was the best in each category. Yeah... that SRT-4 outside the store is orange. I don't drive an orange one. Good try.

oh... not really a poll..ok..

I would find it hard to not give the nod to FAOIS in every catagory.

JMO. but everyone should shop where they feel most comfortable
