I did come close to just sticking with power heads but really wanted to stick with the cl for the same reason. I have hated looking at the power heads on the glass
Wow Steve. I'm sorry you're going through that. I just stirred my sand and will use a maxi jet to blow the detritus off the rocks. Gonna be doing major filter sock changes.
But you always prevailed and I admire you for that.
So issues in the display tank continue because of some nuisance inhabitants! My nemesis right now is a Gorilla Crab. I'm noticing the tips of my sps are being munched on and I have spotted him perched on corals about 30 mins after lights out. No matter what I do I can't seem to catch him. He's growing because I keep on finding claws in the tank and they're getting bigger. Here's yesterday's find....
He seems to keep to the left side of my tank so I am considering a drastic move and take out the rock from that side of tank.
Could you not buy or build a trap for the crab? You need something long enough and narrowing that once he finds his way in he won't find his way back out. A ball of fishing line around the bait ensures that he gets too snarled to get out.

I've tried several different traps and have gotten really good at catching my cleaner shrimp and hermits. This guy is smart and I can see him laughing at me!!!! :lolspin:
I have found that I need to put all my inverts in time out to catch pest inverts. I put in a baited trap (usually just a water bottle with an inverted top) and then wait while I catch everything that is brave. The cleaner is usually first and then the nassarius and peppermint. Hell the cleaner rides my arm around if I am in the tank.
After they are mostly caught I leave them in there for the day while I place another trap or two at lights our to catch the pest. They are cranky when I dump them out in the morning but I have caught the pests! It still might take a couple of tries.
Your corals look amazing and I am big tank dreamer so I love lurking on y'all's threads while I move along in life and this hobby. Someday I will be ready to take on my own big tanks!
great pics steve and congrats on ROTM. regarding crab, get him out!!! i have had one in my tank 3 years now, and the damage totals about $400. recently, i had a +2" crocea clam go missing and a 5" green slimer broken at the base and pulled deep in my rock. i can see the slimer but can't reach it; the clam is just MIA.
