A Low Country Reef Tank....one more final upgrade

Not to judge one reactor over the other, but did you ever go to the manufacturer (MTC) to ask their advice on why the levels would drop and their recommendations to fix it?

I did a couple of times and unfortunately nothing that was suggested worked. Nothing against MTC here, they build really great high quality products. This one just didnt work out.

It sounds like a pressure imbalance where the gas into the first chamber was greater than the water into the first chamber. Did you change out your CO2 regulator with the new install?

Just curious as I have not experienced this problem before and would hope to avoid it/deal with it if I ever run into it.

Thx,

Dave.M

I switched to an aquarium plants regulator and still had the problem. The main chamber has a pressure gauge on it and I questioned if there was possibly something wrong with that.

OK Steve and I thought this hobby teaches patience and relaxation techniques. Maybe you needed to kick that guy doing your yard work.... All is well if now you are good with the new reactor. Unfortunately you still have your contractor knocking!!

Looking good Steve! I catch up on Wayne and your thread and you've just added coral:)

Watch out for that pocillopora, it spreads all too quickly. I had a colony that grew to about a softball size and ended up spreading all over the tank. I've since pulled it as it had about 30 starts around my 600 and nuked them with kalk paste, need to do a second round this weekend.

I'll be Raleigh for business week before Christmas, was just looking and you're still quite a bit south of there....Dammit.

Wait....are you saying that pocilloporas can just sprout up anywhere like say a mushroom or clove polyps???????

Yeah Raleigh is still a good 4-5 hrs away from me.

I can second that. Steve if you remember I had that huge colony in my tank. If water parameters are right that coral can spread on its own...lol. Similar to what Dustin1300 was saying kalk paste can keep them under control :). Kalk and peroxide are are are your best friends for anything you want dead in the tank :).

Pocillopora is called an "encrusting" coral, i.e. it grows all over the top of everything around it. On the positive side, you have to be running a really superb tank for it to spread like that. Doesn't that make you feel better?

Dave.M :)

Dave.M- I loved it! Everything was perfect :). Clowns were spawning every 12- 14 days, Glass Cardinals males stayed with mouths of eggs, cleaner shrimp and peppermint shrimp had babies regularly, and blue mushrooms were constantly popping up. I was living the life :). Then came tank crash and I am still trying to get a SPS to grow again.

Steve how is that skimmer performing for you? Still kicking butt?
Why did you pick it over the other options out there

Corey

Thanks Floyd:: I have three or four types that I was cherishing and looked very positively on them. Not growing very fast while other items are really growing. Chucks hate to remove them

Hey Corey, I have to say I'm really loving the skimmer!!! I'm so glad I went with an external skimmer....I've truly set it and forgotten about it. I decided to go with RO mostly because of the support and price point. My last build I got caught up with "it must be better because it's expensive" and realized that's not always the case. The guys at coral cue provide excellent support and replacement parts are usually readily available when needed.

Not too much to add...letting the tank do its thing. I have been picking up corals here and there but nothing too exciting. However, I am excited about the tank finally getting a face to the stand, canopy and sides. After what seemed like an endless search for a cabinet maker that I felt confident in achieving what it was I wanted, I found a guy that is orginally from NJ and has been living down here for about a year now. He totally
got what I wanted to do and started working on it last week. Here is what he has completed so far....

It should be completed and installed by the end of next week.
