A Low Country Reef Tank....one more final upgrade

A Low Country Reef Tank....one more final upgrade

So things have been moving along smoothly with just a minor bump in the road. A couple of months ago I decided that I wanted to switch controllers from Apex to GHL because I was having some consitency issues with the temp probes on the Apex. I finally got around to start the transition that I wanted to do in two phases so I could allow myself time to get used to GHL programming. The first phase would be to convert everything that is controlled by the DT over...lights, closed loop, temp, ph and uv. Once I got thru the programming of the GHL which at first seemed really difficult but once I understood what I was doing it is very simple, I put the temp probe on the tank and noticed that there was a huge difference between the apex temp and ghl temp by 5 degrees. Apex was showing 78 and ghl was showing 73. After testing with a couple of different thermometers it was determined that the GHL is correct and I have been running my tank pretty cool lately. I was seeing a 2 degree swing in my tank daily which means at night my tank was dropping down to 71. This just proves that you cant rely solely on a temp probe and a back up device is needed as well as periodic calibrating of the temp probe.

Now a growth shot! This was taken 10/3

And this last night after the MH's went off.

I'm pretty happy with that!!!

I used a couple of different types of thermometer ranging from an old fashioned floating mercury thermometer to an NIST certified thermometer to a digital meat thermometer.

Steve,
I have moved you to my I don't like you list...lol :p. Great shots man and the corals are looking amazing. I am just hoping I can get back to being able to share some great shots once I get the new set up up and running.

Steve,

Your tank coming along nicely. How do you keep the acrylic clean without scratch? is it easy?

I am thinking acrylic for my next tank.

Hey Lam, it definitely scratches easily and I just put a nice scratch in the front panel because I was careless. I usually rinse all of the pad I use to clean the inside of the tank and this time I didn't. Mighty Magnets sells an in water scratch repair kit that I am going to try. I usually use magic erasers and the mighty magnet cleaner.

Looking fantastic Steve! The growth you are having thus far is outstanding!!!

Thanks Dan!!!! Glad to see you checking in!
