A pic of my 75 g today 1 year details.

Remember that tangs are one of the best fish for a reef because they eat fish poop. I'd keep a tang in a 29 gallon reef, even if I had to get him a little fishy psychologist to help him with his claustrophobia.

kaweahnet statement says it all there , my tangs are very happy.
brad your tank is looking great, I like all the fish, I think I need one more fish.
I need to correct a raising nitrate level right now thow.

When did you see my tank?

No problem.

Right now I'm trying to decide on what fish to go with, I will be placing a big order online. I'm looking at.

Kole tang
Hippo Tang
Carpanter wrasse
Painted Fairy wrasse
yellow watchmen and pistol

I'll be adding 4-5 corals.

I have a 75g.

My nitrates were undetectible to 2 for 1 1/2 years. Now in the last 6 months they have climbed to 40. I cannot find the cause . My sump pump splits water to display and refugium, I slowed the supply to the refugium and increased it to the display, hope this helps, my chaeto hasnt grown well for that last year, so hopefully this might fix it, I also ordered more chaeto.

You monster 4 Tangs in a 75g.

I'm still not done...I need a bloned naso tang :D...

don't worry though, I'm in the process of setting up my 150 in-wall tank :D.

Today I vacuumed my sump and removed my skimmer and rinsed out the bottom half of it. So now I have changed flow of the return and cleaned out sump and skimmer, also moved my light to better shine on the chaeto and increased chaeto lighting to 14 hours. I hope one of these things fixes my nitrates.

So far nitrates have not changed. I purchased a batch of chaeto on ebay that is at least growing , my other chaeto did not grow.
I will now start 25 gal water changes daily for 1 week to get Nitrates down, then hope the new chaeto will keep it down.
My tank is great , no algae and everything is doing really good.
I also just ordered a recirculating skimmer from Geo to replace my AquaC EV120.

Yep sounds good, I just did a cleaning on my skimmer and return pump as well after my first 4 months of operation on the new tank. My nitrates are up a little as well, so I am doing 2-3 water changes a week for the next 2 weeks and trying to get them down to or near zero.

The AquaC EV120 is a good skimmer, why are you replacing it, is it not pulling out as much as you want or do you think it is just not performing well for you?

I have had this skimmer for 2 years now. It is not a good skimmer imo. It either over skimms very wet, sometimes it will fill 1 quart container in 1 hour , other times no skimming at all for hours, sometimes a thicker skimmate for a week then back to filling a guart container in an hour, no consistancy what so ever.
I shouldnt say no consistantly , if I want to get super wet skimmate and fill the quart container every hour , it will do that consistatnly, it trieing to get it conistantly make a dryer skimmate that is impossible, but even a wet skimmate shouldnt be 6 gallons a day.

I just read what you wrote Tonym and have to agree 100% with you. I used an AquaC 120 for a year and had the same results as you describe. I then bought a small Euro-reef to test the difference and could not believe how much better this tiny (made for 75 gallon) skimmer was. I then changed my tank over to BB so I upgraded that to a ASM G3x. That skimmer works as good as everyone says it does. I think that you'll be very happy with the new GEO skimmer. I know from fellow club members that use his products that his quality is second to none. Good luck.

I use the Euroreef ES5-2 for my 90g even though they say the max it is designed for is a 75g. I had this skimmer on my 55g for a year and a half with great results and I am using the same return pump and sump/refuge so it is skimming the same and is doing great for the 90g.

Tony, I run the lighting in my refuge over my macro algae 24x7.

The chaeto I got before was more wirey then the type I just got off ebay, the ebay stuff was like fine hair. The ebay chaeto is growing great, its hard to tell , but I think it has doubled in a week, where the wirey kind didnt double in a year.
I am sure your Euro works great, if you ever tried a AquaC you would see the differance.
The Geo Skimmer I am getting will be external and is sized for up to a 250g tank , in case I ever upgrade my tank.

I just programmed my Liter meter to do 96 liter / day water changes every other day for a total of three water changes.I think that should take me from 40 ppm nitrate now to close to 10.
Then the following week I will do the same thing , three more water changes of the same amount should get me below 5. Then it will be up to my new Geo skimmer and my new nicely growing chaeto.

Pic next to me my AquaC. This skimmer makes my old AquaC look like it should be on a nano .

Awsome, when are you hooking it up?

Make sure we get some pics of every aspec while your connecting it so we can all think about buying one so we know what is involved. My Euroeef is plug and play, that looks like it has a bit more to it.

I will try to get lots of pics. I have a couple fittings ordered to set it up, so hopefully this weekend.
It is really big, I am going to have to try to figure out a way to arrange it all. I will have to move my calcium reactor and kalk reactor and saltwater mixing tank etc......

Another pic showing more of the stuff to the left of my sump. All this stuff has to make room for the new skimmer, but it all has to stay close to where it is now.
