Very nice build....the above coral is a Fire coral-Millepora alcicornis. Very potent sting.

Thanks for the ID.

It's not growing that fast and probably won't be bothering its neighbor for a while but if it packs a powerful sting, maybe I should get rid of it then?

Fire Coral! ugh we get those in our beaches and it stings like hell. BTW thats the prettiest I've seen.
Great pictures!

Thanks Sammy, now I'm really considering getting rid of it if it stings like hell

Very nice setup !

Congrats

Thanks Denadai :)

dont get rid of the fire coral just put it on an island or in an area that nothing will touch it but i happen to think its pretty cool!!!!

Looking forward to following this build...

Great pictures!

I remember seeing stands of Millepora while snorkeling in the Keys. I also remember brushing up against them a couple times by accident--yeeee-owwww-ouch! If you don't want to get rid of it, I'd definitely at least isolate it and keep it pruned away from any other corals. And watch out while you're working in the tank! ;)

Beautiful coral and based on the details of the new tank build....The tank will be as clean as the corals outlined. Subscribed and cannot wait for the tank to be built;)

Beautiful photos. Very much looking forward to this setup completing.
being a HUGE fan of Andrew's, i love your tank too! keep us posted :)
Hi howard, nice setup, will be tagging along.
Following along

Wow I love all your wide variety of coral types and colors.

Thanks guys for the encouragement, I'll post updates here as soon as my new tank arrives, hopefully early December :)

I always loved the look of a SPS dominated tank, but some of those acans / rics / leathers / zoa's are just too colorful and couldn't resist.

In fact, I'm gonna try to collect some exotic LPS coming in from Indonasia that I doubt you'll find them anywhere in the States :lmao:

These are taken from my friend's tank, rainbow open brain, it just made me drool when I saw those.

I normally use a small coral feeder pump, aim at the frag and give it a few squirt so it'll retract all its polyps before I do anything, but regardless I'm still thinking of removing it from the live rock and putting it on a frag stand after the move, so I can keep it under control in case it start getting too close to other SPS nearby.

Another great start and I wish you all the best. Look forward to see how this develops in to a beautiful reef. Good luck.

Man the seems on the tank look really nice. What do they mean by closed injection?

Well I'm not entirely sure how they did it, considering it's "trade secret", but according to the vendor, if you think "open injection" is the normal method of applying silicone sealent on the end, then "closed injection" is where they first use some tools to seal the edge then injecting the silicone into the edge with high pressure, so the finished product would look like what you saw in the photos I've posted.

looks great :)

Time for an update!

The tank and its stand finally arrived at the shop! I'm really impressed by the craftsmanship, they look exactly as I've thought, if not better :D

Here're some photos:

The DT, still wrapped in cling.

Looking through the edge of the PPG Starphire, you can the bottom of the tank. Oh and the closed injection edges, good stuff.

Bottom part of the stand, this is where I'm going to put the 2x MP10wES drivers.

And the top part.

Now I'm just waiting for the remaining parts to arrive, including plumping, overflow silencer and other accessories. ETA Dec 17th. Woot!

and we got the tank! looks sweet. The stand is awesome. Sorry if I missed you, is the stand laminated or lacquered?

Looking great! I've been following along with v1, so I guess it makes sense for me to follow along with this one too! :)
