A Reef in the Sky

Hey guys... Thanks for bringing this up Ryan as I forgot to mention it. As stated, I plan on using a check valve that will be located on the outside of the overflow. May actually use x2 in a row for redundancy.

Thanks Andrew

Alright that is good news! Glad you thought about that ahead of time. That would be a disaster if that little pump destroyed an entire tank.:hmm3:

The build looks really good!

thanks for the iaquatic contact andrew.

i was just able to checkout your thread again today and i say this again and again, yours is definitely one of the best builds here in RC! goodluck on the build buddy!

Thanks Vic, nice to see your tank is coming along too.

Final Touches - before delivery

Now, as the deliver date approaches I had a few things done. Another power outlet was installed, cleaned up and re-wired the wires going to the light box and replaced the old LED lights with some funky new ones :naughty: :smilie_co

I just stumbled on this thread. You're definitely off to a great start, I love the dimmable LED lights. I will be following this thread, I also have a rimless tank. Love the stand and how modern everything looks.

Thanks... and welcome!

Those LED's are great! Your build just keeps getting better and better WTG.
Thanks Matt

very cool...
all the best with the project.
Thank you Kenneth.

Those LEDs are a great touch to a great build!
Yeah, pretty impressed with them. Glad I changed.

Fantastic. It is a tank of dreams.
Thank you Thomas

I think all of us are almost as excited as Andrew to see this tank up and running...
lol... it has taken a while but will shortly be here.

Preparing the Substrate

I have started soaking the substrate (Aragonite) for at least a week prior to placing in the tank. Should help release any PO4 and therefore reduce it and the cloudiness when it is introduced into the tank. A slow process, but will hopefully be worth it in the long run.

8 Bags of this... not sure I will need all though :spin2:

Went and bought a plastic strainer to help to rinsing process

A simple rinse

Leaving it soak in in fresh RODI water, changing it every other day

Now it is time to replace some the RODI filters

You have made my tank look so silly. haha. you have a great sense of design into your tank stand and etc. Best build thread i've seen.

Thank you yong but I am sure your tank is great too!

Display Tank Finished

I had the opportunity to go and view the tank today (on my birthday... great present huh??). First impressions... :inlove:
Snapped a few pics of it and inspected the other items for the first time. Very happy so far!

I am impressed with the back ground. Worked out well.

The overflow is exactly how I wanted it. I plan on having a custom acrylic lid made to prevent light and nuisance algae growing down there.

A better picture of the background. Hopefully it will go with the blue cabinet

Everything will be delivered tomorrow... except the ATO container.

Rockscape Design

The live rock also arrived today and I had first pickings :spin1: After a couple of hours this is what we managed to come up with. Similar to my plans.

Overview
AerialView.jpg

This was always going to be a challenge since the internal overflow affects the space available.
MainStructure2.jpg

MainStructure.jpg

Hoping to create a nice illusion of depth between the island and main structure. Also will allow fishes to swim around the island and underneath the large overhangs.
IslandLeftSide.jpg

Particularly happy with the island. The picture isn't that clear but more to come.

Hope you guys like!

You rock dude!

Now I need to convince my wife we need to vacation in Hong Kong so I can check this bad boy out in person.

all I can say is......

Happy Birthday Andrew!!! :celeb1::celeb1::celeb1:
