A Reef in the Sky

i love the cleanness and design of the tank and stand, amazing!

i fly back to hk every year and the only place i found that sells good equipment like tunze/deltec/ecotech...was a place called ocean world aquarium on Tung Choi Street

is there a LFS that you would recommend? or is there another area in hk that has LFS?

Thanks

Tubular motor / light lift

Hi, I love the tank and have not been able to put my iPad down since I found your thread!!! I was just looking for some more info on the light lift you had made, really just wanted to know how much it cost and also if you could provide a contact for the manufacturer you used. Have you had any issues with it, or is it pretty reliable?

Also, I was wondering if you have had any issues with the JBJ auto top off overflowing? Was looking at buying one, and read that a few people had some issues.

Thank you very much in advance, would have sent a private message, but I am new to site and can't send private messages yet ( joined because of this thread) !!

Thanks again

Hi - I tried to PM you but I have not posted enough yet. Have to say your tank is amazing. We are currently planning a build and as I was researching/planning I found your thread. What a great planning tool your thread is for anyone planning a new build from the initial planning, the tank, stand, plumbing, layout all the way to the end result. Our build is very similar, Rimless reef tank 60x36x28. I wanted to ask you if you would share your designs your latest stand. It is exactly what I pictured in our stand. It has style and very neat layout. Could you please email me at bkirk31@verizon.net as I still can not PM? I would greatly appreciate it.
thank you
Byron

Congratulations on TOTQ!

I have enjoyed following your tank progression from plans to full blown reef. Hope to be as successfull one day.

By far the easiest K+ test i have seen or used, its great. Also the best frag plates too, nice and heavy so they dont get blown over
Agree and agree. Very happy with both

TS: how did you managed to keep your back of the tank so clean?
Cleaning it every week with a scraper.

hello V1...rotate,

As I am sure that has been said to you many times before on this thread your tank is amazing. I havent really gotten through this whole thread yet but i'd say im about half way through reading it.

But I had some questions related to your profession, I read some where in this thread that you are an first officer flying Triple 7's, stationed over in HKG. Funny as it sounds as i began to go through this thread, and noticing your preparation through designs and really just the way you organized everything, from the planning to the practical uses of your equipment and labeling and organization. I thought to myself it seamed eerily familiar.
Its because I am studying to become an AMT and am not that far off from getting my licenses, but I recognize in you what I see in some of my instructors here at my school in Miami.

Don't really know how to put it into words but its reeks of aviation. That's a good thing, at least IMO.

Just was curious as to the airliner you fly for and what model 777 you fly? And what do you mean by V1? is that the front fan or one of the compressors? if you don't mind divulging that info. I only ask because this is my favorite engine
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/guZKxNIIsuI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Not because its the best because as you know its not the most fuel efficient, but just because of the amount of thrust it produces.

Thanks in advance

Ricky in Miami
Thanks for the kind words Ricky. Yep, all that is correct. My company operates x3 models 777-200, 777-300 & 777-300ER
V1... a speed we use on the take-off. Referred to as a decision speed.

so what was your K+ measuring at ? are you dosing it through the week ?

cant wait to get it here in Canada.
First time I tested I got 360. So I dose approx 4ml every couple of days. I've been doing this now for 5 weeks and the corals have responded with more polyp extension during the day. It now sits around 390.

I bought the Salifert K test after seeing Andrews post. I should have it by the weekend, so I will post a short review too.
I read your post and it is very informative. It is a great test kit. I love it too

Hi, are you using zeovit trace elements like potassium iodide, iron conc or somehting else?
No I don't use those elements

V1 is the decision speed for a pilot during take-off. ;)

Andrew, your tank looks fabulous. I didn't think it'd come through when you made the switch over to the LEDs, but the rendition is surprisingly vivid. How're you finding the corals are responding now as they progressively adapt to the new conditions?
Thanks man... so far so good. I'll give an update shortly as there has been some changes :)

Big congrats on the Zeo tank of the Quarter!

How often do you break down your skimmer for cleaning?
Thank you. I just cleaned the skimmer very thoroughly last week. Usually every 4-5 months.

Congrats on tank of the quarter Andrew!Straight to TOTM on RC now!!!!!

Loukas
Thank you Loukas

Congrats on Zeovit TOTQ Andrew! As stated many times above, it is only a matter of time over here :)
Thank you sir.

Tank looks even better now, great job with the aqua-scapeing.
Thank you

Congrats Andrew :)

Hey Andrew, I see you made the switch. Looking great. Best of luck with the LEDs.
Hey Jono, thanks. Will definitely catch up next time I'm in NY

Thank you. I am not currently using the light lifter on this tank. The reason is because we are renting and I didn't want to drill too many holes into the ceiling. The light lifter is great and I actually miss it.
I'll send you a PM with the details for the light lifter.

I currently don't use the JBJ auto top up. I only used it for 3months or so. It was fine but had lots of bulky items/sensor holders etc that I wasn't a fan of. Many others speak very highly of it.

First Year Anniversary

Last month saw 'A Reef in the Sky' pass one year since the relocation.

A second LED fixture was installed and I'm very happy so far. My friend has lent me his PAR meter so I post the pictures/results. It's impressive!!!

So some pictures...

Pretty awesomeeeee :D
One more lighting unit....that's awesome too!!

So you have drastically reduced the amount of live rock in ya system. Any reason in particular?

Extremely beautiful pictures as always.
