A Reef in the Sky

Oh what do u think of the color between the coral + and AB special?

AB Special is 10000ºK...white/slightly yellow light for human eye. (Coral light in KZ tubes)
Coral + is 14000ºK...white light for human eye. (Coral light new generation in KZ tubes)
B+ is 22000ºK...blue light for the human eye.

The ATI Hybrid Works

I managed to snap a picture last week. The unit is SOOO bright!! I just got back from a 4 day trip. Should be putting the light up tomorrow if some of my friends can come over an help me :worried2: LOL

I think you should have had a couple of eggs frying on that cover just to demonstrate the full power of that beast mate - ATI could use the pic in their advertising i'm sure lol.
Some pics of the reef with that awesome light module over it will be cool when you can manage it. :)

With 8 bulbs? Won't see much shimmer from the LEDs I assume. Will see when its over the tank.

Hi,
This unit is top of the line.
The LEDs in this system is a whopping 4 x 75w high quality units...they themselves alone can light up a tank. Not to mention a PAR beast. And will be supremely bright.
This unit is the best of T5 LED combo out there and definitely produce a natural shimmer.
We shall soon see it in action :)

from my short (2 months) experince
with 3*75+4*54
I think that 4*75+4*80 is more than you will ever need
I started with
1 BP
1 PP
1 CP
1 Actinic
and I few days ago I switched to
3 BP
1 PP
and the light output is much stronger than the Sunpower 8*54 that I had before.

I think that you should try:
6 BP
1 PP
1 Actinic

I would be careful integrating this light into your reef. The ATi 8 bulb T5 is already a strong light. You don't need LED to keep an awesome reef.
Now ATI puts LED lighting on a unit that doesn't need it. Now I have a feeling that you could run the LED's without the T5's and keep a SPS system going.
My idea of this eight bulb light is it allows you to use T5 bulbs combo's you normally wouldn't because of PAR.
I saw the bulbs you purchased. I would be very careful of how much LED light you start at 40% maybe.
I think you are very smart waiting until you are home for a week or so, so you can monitor this amazing light. It may be amazing but I feel it could reek havoc on your tank if not set up properly.
On the flip side, I may be totally wrong.

Thank you,

Marty

Great to hear it is going well. Looking forward to getting mine set up shortly

Thank you

Thank you Bello

i saw a video on youtube where a guy has a ten or eight bulb t5 over his sps with two kessil w360 and it gave a pretty nice shimmer. not sure if the ati supplement led lighting will have the same effect or not...:eek1: i'm surprised there are not more hybrid lights out there, especially with a lot of all sps tanks using t5 only. maybe next year...

Answer is easy: what is the main advantage LED over T5? lower consumption, and shimmer effect ... hybrids systems recover T5 color, but lose energy saving, and the shadow effect is attenuated.
I think that advantages of hybrids systems over T5 pure systems are
questionable.

It just seems like there might be a market for sps growers who have ran from led because of not getting the same spread as t5, but still like the look of led. im sure if ati has started selling them others will soon follow suit.

First photos with the new lights

I have been rather busy the last few days and haven't spent as much time as I'd like to have on/around the tank.

In summary... the new lights are WOW!! :eek1: There is so much ability to control this light fixture. I'll give more details soon but until then, here are some photos with the new ATI Hybrid.

The width of the lights are great plus the clip that hold the perspex up. No more sagging.

Looks great !!! Funny my fixture doesn't have this clip to hold the acrylic from sagging, I guess they did it on newer models.

Awesome!

Wow, this build is truly amazing!

I am new to the hobby myself and am planning a build relatively similar to yours. A rimless 90 Gallon 48Lx18Wx24H. I am currently in the process of quoting my tank with miracles and am debating on getting them to construct my stand as well. I really love your stands exterior design... How much did the stand cost?

The new light looks great, the reef is disgustingly beautiful as always mate. I'm really pleased you haven't had any probs introducing the new light setup in regards to the corals. Did you start the LED's low and build them up or use a PAR meter to dial it in. Sorry for the questions but i'm sure others contemplating the hybrid upgrade would like to hear your thoughts on introducing the new LED light into the T5 system :)

Thank you Mark. Yeah, I think it is on the new models.

Thanks Ancelot

Thought I saw you yesterday, was this you?

LOL... I watched the game on TV so it certainly wasn't me. Nearly died from the stress!! :worried:

Welcome Mike and thank you for your kind words. I am not sure of the cost as it was an all in one package with the move I did.

Looking great

Are you able to take pics as easily as you were, when running pure T5's?
Hi Bello, thank you. Yes the pictures are alot easier to take than just with LEDs.

Thanks mate... No haven't got the PAR meter out yet but hope to do sometime soon. I'll answer your questions about the unit shortly in a new post. Cheers
