A reef pioneer passed away this morning

Very sorry to hear this. My first full blown reef tank had DIY rocks I learned to make from his GARF site..... a real inspiration.

The Borchers Family and The Marine Aquarists Roundtable Of Sacramento send our deepest regards to the family and let them know they will be in our prayers and thoughts

This is so sad. I just talked to him on the phone a couple days ago and he said he was doing better but was concerned for Sally Jo's health. :(

I think I probably drove him crazy with questions when I was setting up my tank, but he was always so helpful and kind and happy.

LeRoy will be missed.

Just found out when I stopped by Garf.org. I remember him and Sally Jo speaking at the Brooklyn Aquarium Society in the mid-90s. And I just got grunge from GARF a couple of weeks ago after getting back in the hobby.

He will be missed.

Just added some grunge to my tank that had been ordered by a fellow reefer. Always enjoyed their website. Knowledgeable, helpful and generous folks. The reefing community will miss Leroy. Sure hope they continue his work!

This is my first post and I haven't even a tank yet, but I have a heart and would like to pass along some love and goodwill to LeRoy Headlees friends, family and extended family. Thank you.

Condolences. I learned so much about the hobby from the page and DIY section. Great work they were doing. He will be missed.

I used to have a tank in the 90's and I was a fan of the GARF website for all the advice and shared knowledge that really show the passion for the hobby. I did not meet LeRoy but I can say for sure that his passion will definitely stay with us forever. My condolences to the family.

I learned a great deal from that man. I never met him in person, but read his website in detail. It was very kind of him to share his knowledge with so many...and to do it so willingly. Rest in Peace and Thank You for the inspiration!!!
