A Reef Tank in the Desert - +/- 1,400 gallon system

Reef Lobster

Reef Lobster

I haven't seen her in over two months. She used to live in a cave below one of my towers. I figured she must have died. What do I know? Tonight when I fed the fish, she decided to come out on the other side of the tank.

I need to take out my GoPro camera with the underwater case and take some video of her.

Out it in the case with a bit of air in there to make it more buoyant and let it float around for about 5 minutes.

wow Dan amazing! I'm glad your fish are doing great and fending for themselves. i'm truly happy for you bud and wish many more good things! Awesome man, truly awesome!

Dan,

I had one, put him in the tank and he was gone in 20 seconds. After 6 mths a shell floated out and I thought he was dead. 6 mths later another shell floated out. It took another year before I was able to actually start watching him. Then came the problem of him killing the smaller fish. So 2 mths is just a short nap to him.

Dan for reference, I got my Achilles in May of last year with the Orange Dash on its rear similar to yours.

The Orange is now a sizeable teardrop, and I don't think I feed mine as well as you feed your tank.

Sohal Delivery

Sohal Delivery

I know... it's not FedEx Friday and I know that Wayne and Steve Potter, amongst others, will be giving me a hard time for not once, but twice in the same week, accepting deliveries on a day other than Friday.

I too cower at the thought.

However, my choices were limited. The only place that I could find any small Sohals was at Fresh Marine. The issues with Fresh Marine are a little bothersome... They only ship on Wednesdays and they offer no, zero, none, zilch, nada guarantee!

Well this morning the following package arrived at my office:

After a 90 minute acclimation period, the new Sohal is in the QT with my other Sohal, lights out, separated by some egg-crate.

He/she is about 3/4" bigger than my existing Sohal. She is definitely laboring a little. While she swam around for a couple minutes, she went into a corner and is hanging out on the bottom. She was not enticed to eat with live brine or any garlic soaked food. Hopefully later tonight she will become more active.

I was not the slightest bit impressed with the packaging job of Fresh Marine. Nor was I impressed with the condition of the water that it was sent in.

I will put the lights on later this evening when I feed and will try to shoot some pics.

Those Achilles look amazing. I am glad to hear they are getting along and sticking together. I hope your new Sohal starts eating.

So when are you going to put a webcam on the tank so we can watch it and drool?

Other than a big aquarium you are doing something no one else can achieve with the 2 Achilles and sohals. Only Chingchai is the only person I know that had 2 Achilles at the same time in his tank. Then again he also had 2 Gem Tangs also.

Great job Dan. OH yea I begin being your driver next Friday so your deliveries will be fresh and early. For a small nominal delivery fee of course.

Sohal Update

Sohal Update

I have a feeling that these two are going to be challenging and will test my patience.

I've been spending time watching them before the Arizona game and during timeouts. Fortunately, the Sohals are doing better than my Wildcats right now.

The new one is still hanging out down low and is laboring a little bit. He did eat a little which is good. Both of my Sohals keep going after one another through the egg-crate. Fortunately, they won't be together (I won't be removing the egg-crate) anytime soon. Not until the new one is eating a ton. I do have a fresh shipment of Brine Shrimp arriving tomorrow morning to assist/entice him.

hope those tangs do better then your wildcats did!! Im just kidding they played pretty good but those buckeyes are real good ball team. sucks it had to be a buzzer beater but on a good note your tangs look healthy and good! hopefully they will become friends here pretty soon!

Wayne, you are more than worthy. Wait till you start filling up your bad boy. I will admit two things... 1) Yes, I am pretty sick. 2) Your Buckeyes are going down, down, down.

March Madness 2013: University of Arizona Wildcats lose to Ohio State Buckeyes 73-70.

I'm sorry Dan. You were saying?:celeb1::celeb1::celeb1:

Leroy, it's a good thing that you weren't in Wildcat country. I may have kicked your other knee instead of chasing the dog! Your Buckeyes were the better team today. Or the luckier one...

 That would be right up your ally since you do like to do things in pairs. 2 torn meniscuss, yeah yeah yeah.

We still call them that:

We have a thread in the anemone section for show off your ritteri.

Come join us...

That little guy needs some care.

Thanks Worm. I checked out the thread and will try to post some pictures on it soon. I moved the Purple Magnifica into my main display a couple of nights ago. It seems to be loving the LED's and flow.

I feel kinda bad... in my QT I had a pair of Ocellaris Clowns that the ritteri hosted. So when I moved it into the tank, I decided to move the Ocellaris pair too. One problem...As soon as I got the Magnifica into place, my pair of Domino Clowns found this new anemone. For an evening, it hosted all four Clowns but now the Domino's have taken over sole possession. I have been trying to get the Ocellaris pair to swim over to the other side of the tank where I have a nice Rose Bubble and a large Green Bulb Anemone. No such luck though yet.
