A Reef Tank in the Desert - +/- 1,400 gallon system

Loimia sp (medusa)? Commonly referred to as spaghetti worms they are one of the most
important inhabitants of deep sand beds (DSB). They clean the top of the sand bed
with their long sweeping tentacles plus, they borrow deep into the sand bed pulling
and pushing water into and out of the deep layers where Nitrate is converted to
Nitrogen gas.

I have discovered so many new online suppliers thanks to this thread haha. Love it!

Thanks wlyon!

There really are some great online suppliers for livestock and supplies!

I think it's important for us to all share our experiences with the various vendors. Both good and bad! Thanks for visiting!!!

You may have already addressed this, so if you did I apologize. Where did you get those specific aquarium acclimation boxes? I like them a lot. Hoping I can find some just like it online.

I constructed these cheap but effective acclimation boxes out of egg-crate. I made them pretty large, 26" wide, to give the achilles plenty of room.

I hope you got a good look Erwin. I should have all of them all in my main display this evening. I still have a number of them sitting in my frag tank.

Those were some really nice corals and fish. Very awesome. BTW, im sorry Dan but the Miami Hurricanes are going all the way this year! Go Canes!

Today's Shipments

I told everyone I was expecting two more packages that didn't arrive on FedEx Friday. One arrived today and the other was repackaged and sent out today for tomorrow delivery.

Six (6) more Radion Pros to swap out with my Generation 1's and an old MP60 that I had repaired.

I am planning on running 3 MP60's and 2 MP40's on my system.

I won't get to install the lights until Friday morning. I still need to swap out two more. I think I will end up purchasing two new units and placing the two Generation 1's on my Seahorse Refugium tank.

Those are going to be some great additions. I was in LA last week and spoke to Scott on the phone and was trying to get down to his location, but time didn't permit.

I was able to stop by Vivid Aquariums and see their 14 foot 800 gallon display. It was neat to be able to stand in front of a tank like that and see half of it lit with MH and the other half with Radions.

Thanks. I am also excited about the new additions. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to add any of the new corals this evening.

When you are ready for corals, give Scott at Unique Corals a call. If you tell him what you are looking for, he will do Facetime with you on his iPhone so that you see everything in his tanks.

I have to hit up Vivid the next time I am in LA. I really wanted to go this weekend for the NCAA Tournament. A kid, Elliott, that used to work at my LFS is now working for them.

Achilles Update

Achilles Update

:fish1: Time for the Achilles

The Achilles are in the tank fending for themselves!!!

They were both being completely ignored in their acclimation boxes. I was getting a little concerned as they did not seem to be eating as much in the acclimation boxes. It would be challenging for any fish. Plus, as big as the acclimation boxes are, they still don't have a lot of room to swim around.

So tonight, I decided to let them free.

They seem to be doing okay. I'd say a 6.5 out of 10. Immediately my two Powder Blue Tangs started harassing them along with my Clown Tang (it not as much). I thought about throwing in a couple of Yellow Tangs or even the smaller Clown Tang that I have in QT - all to relieve some of the attention on the Achilles. In the end, I decided against it.

The Achilles themselves, seem to be best friends. They have been staying within 3" of each other, swimming side by side.

The lights are out in the tank now and I just peaked in with a flashlight. All is calm. I will check on them throughout the day tomorrow. I am planning on feeding several times over the next few days to keep everyone occupied. But, it looks like they should be okay.

Just read that Jawsee is leaving the hobby and has sold most of his stuff, however, he does have his two Clarion Angels for sale. Maybe they could arrive on the next FedX Friday. :spin3:

I was very saddened to read Jawsee's thread. His tanks have been an inspiration to me for years. He definitely had the "Green Thumb" so to speak. Those Angels are beautiful! Not for me though...

I checked aquacon.com and they list sohal tangs but on the pricing it says, must be special ordered. you might want to call them and see what is the availability. i even checked petsolutions.com and they are out of stock.

Thanks Erwin!

I am waiting for confirmation today! I should have one coming from Fresh Marine tomorrow! It will definitely be a challenge getting two of them to play nice together. I will be keeping them in QT for a long while, although out of all the tangs, they are some of the most hardy fish. I have a feeling that I will have to separate them a lot with egg-crate, just like I did with the Achilles. The one in my QT and the one I ordered, are both smaller than my Clown Tangs.

I am officially coming out of retirement and take over Dan's FedEx and UPS route but on Fridays only so I can enjoy the other days of the week..

I believe I'm speaking for everyone but keep on livin out dream :) with that said I think
A crosshatch would look beautiful in your system!
