A Reefaholic's 1000+ Gallon Mixed Reef System Build

Man that's a lot of wire that has to be ran. It looks like an all day job.

Yeah, tonight I've got to pick up the service wire (2/2/2/4) that Lowes did not have in stock locally by the foot. For some reason did not want to buy $800 worth of 2 gauge wire when I only need about $100 worth for a 65 foot run. Luckily where my main panel is the run won't be too bad to run as I just have to run over garage and then down a wall into the basement where the panel will reside.

I wrapped up the drawing of the cabinetry this morning before work. I've got to make the run for wire tonight so I'll use that trip to go ahead and figure out the wood/trim situation so I can go ahead and cut out the hole further up and frame it in this weekend.

Went back and forth on front access and came up with design I like...The top will be on a piano hinge and I'll be using some sort of arm to prop it up when I'm working from the front.

looks great! I couldnt pull any info off of the strut for the canopy door. I left a message with the guy that built my cabinets and hopefully I will hear back from him soon.

Thanks Steve. It's no big deal. My main priority is just knowing what size hole needs to be in wall so I can get following done:

1 - Hole cut out to right height.
2- Framed in
3 - Insulation back in place
4 - Plastic on wall
5 - Move stand and Tank on 11/4!!!!

After that I'll be doing the finishing work and many other things with the tank! The strut can be added later in the process too since my design is not dependent on them. I'm not yet sure on the weight of the top cabinet but would guess it's going to be in the 30-50 lb range so hopefully the struts are strong!

If you are running wire, i thought 12 gauge was code?

He has a 100 Amp breaker box that he needs to feed power to. This wire will be used to do that. Once the breaker box has its feed he will be able to run the individual breakers to outlets. That is where 12 gauge wire gets used. NOTE: 12 gauge is rated at 20 amps.

12 is code for a circuit but not a panel. I'm going to have a 100 amp sub-panel ran to the basement. Then from that I'll have several 20 Amp circuits using 12-2 wiring to 20 Amp GFI outlets. The 2/2/2 4 is just from my main panel to the other panel. I've already gave him heads up on the generator later down the road he'll be helping me with:fun5:

Once I have everything in place I'll have a better idea on the power requirments to run fish room and our HVAC, Fridge, etc but thinking something like this:

This is later down the road but an insurance policy!

I like your priorities..... Put the fridge on the the generator to ensure the beer stays cold......

Well, I said I was not going to buy any more coral until this thing was done.....Local club member just posted a bunch of colonies last night and I'm buying them all tonight and they'll fill up the 140 gallon frag tank! After a bayer dip I'll be placing into my grow out tank and try to post pics tomorrow when I get a chance!

Dustin, Dustin, Dustin. You are going to break the code.

The QT code? Local club member had amazing looking tank and I feel confident I'm in the clear. I'll post pictures later but got some pretty nice sized colonies of LPS/SPS. Some need to have color come back but overall a great SCORE! :fun4:

I as the others know and fully have faith in you Dustin. But that is a great score you got.

I'll post some pictures later today as most had good polyp extension a couple hours after being dipped last night. A few are going to require some nursing to get them back to a good color but I'm patient:D

As promised I'd take a few photos...I did some reading about my camera today and have been trying to learn a bit more about the topic since my photos always suck. I'll try to get some more shots of other goodies I got lately that I've not posted.
