A Reefaholic's 1000+ Gallon Mixed Reef System Build

The display tank will have interior dimensions of 137" long x 76" wide x 68" deep. The system as a whole will very much resemble a scaled down version of what Bill Wann is running. I already have all of the components for a 100gallon pneumatically actuated surge, Red Lion Based PLC control system, tons of +GF+ meters and such and other stuff...Just about everything but the finished tank, skimmer and calcium reactor.

...and I continually find other people crazier than me:lmao:

Dustin,
I continue to enjoy your build. However, I have noticed you are still debating skimmers. I am still pleased with my SRO xp8000e on my tank. Recently my bubble blaster plate separated and broke from the connector to the base of the skimmer. In short, I needed to order a replacement piece to reconnect the plate. It took a few weeks but despite this the skimmer skimmed like never before. My nitrogenous and phosphorous compounds remained low and my live stock stayed healthy.
I have had good success with this skimmer and the company support remains exceptional. Good luck with your choice. I remain pleased with my choice. Maintenance remains easy and actually quite fast.

Thanks! That's great to hear another's perspective on the skimmer. Was the break self inflicted or manufacturer defect? Did it leak? Seems the BubbleBlaster 10,000 has not had any issues from the beginning unlike others have had from my research.

The break was a defect in the connector screw. I am back up and running. Skimmer, GAC, and GFO all up and exporting waste. Do not over think your choice in skimmers, I have spent too much time time doing this myself. Currently I am extremely pleased. Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback again! I have the 3000Internal running the system currently like said earlier I have confidence in CoralVue, just good to hear from others that have experience with the skimmer models I'm looking at.

Taking a break...

Taking a break...

Just had came up stairs to take a breather, tired of breathing in the insulation. Last weekend did not have a chance to open up the hole bigger and frame it in, insulate, and cover with plastic. That's my goal and then it's prep time for the tank move!!!

Hole cut out 18" taller for front access. Thanks for knocking some sense into me guys!

Backside insulated and plastic started. Should be done in about an hour so I'll have time to get some other things done.

:bounce1::bounce1::bounce1:Tomorrow is tank move day!!!:bounce1::bounce1::bounce1:

Tank is ready to go into its final resting! Just finished cleaning up the basement and the plethora of tools that had collected. Plastic up and hope that helps to keep the humidity in the room and from not crossing over from the fish room to the furnace room on other side of basement. I'll likely need to get a Fantech air exchanger going before the tank comes online so I'm in the safe zone and not having ridiculously high humidity.

Whole wall covered.

Cutout!

Also decided to leave a skirt along the bottom to make sure that if I have any spills under tank they keep from getting wood wet and causing rot later down the road.

I decided to wrap tank front in plastic should it bump up against something in the move. In knowing that I've got some small scratches from this thing being in storage from previous owner for a few years, been looking into acrylic scratch remover kits. Am I best just to use the Novus kit (Three stages) or anyone have another recommendation? I just want it to be perfectly clear before doing aquascaping and plumbing!

Here's picture of it in garage!!!

I have the 3 stage Novus kit. It does work. I thought I knew what I was doing but I believe I was just being hard on myself. I eventually had the tank buffed out.

Were you being hard on yourself because they were deep scratches? I have a feeling you have to give a lot of elbow grease and time to get it tow where you want but I'm fine with that.

Thanks to all the local club members of INDMAS I was able to get the tank moved into my basement and to the wife for snapping all the photos:thumbsup:

Few bumps and scrapes on the walls but tank is in perfect condition and did not suffer any scratches. Happy to have tank in place and looking forward to the next steps. Some of those being getting the basement finished, cabinetry, and then the electrical sub-panel. After that it's time to finally get this thing running...:bounce3::bounce3::bounce3:

Stand moving...
