A Reefaholic's 1000+ Gallon Mixed Reef System Build

If you have an apex and a ph monitor in your CR get the cheapest one u can. I was counting drips and bubbles for years . Just got the apex and set your Ph to around 6.2 and forget it

Yes sir they are. I've seen a few up front and they even have a dial so you can control the drops. I will be purchasing one.

I have the aquariumplants regulator and the electronic valve control is Exact!. It really stays exactly where you set it and is very easy to adjust with confidence. Traditional needle valves are known to vary their flow over time and this one doesn't vary at all. The company makes a point of mentioning that they have a patent on the electronic valve technology and boast that no one else can sell it (currently). It was well worth the few extra bucks it cost IMO.

Wayne, glad to hear you are getting one too! You will dig it.

OK, OK, stop twisting my arm;)

I've read several reviews and seems to be the best option. I'll add it to my list of things to buy and to add to the above, I'm picking up a Milwaukee PH controller this weekend from local club member. After my Apex fried on me while at MACNA trying to stay away from a single point of failure on my system. I'd like to know the PH from a web interface but having the nice regulator and separate PH controller should help keep things safe.

Electrical ~ CHECK

Electrical ~ CHECK

Electrical is wrapped up this morning. Have a little tidying up of wires but now have the following:

- 22 Regular Outlets (44 Regular Plugins)

Embarassed to show these but GOOD BYE extension cords!

7 Circuits for reef. If I need to add any I've got room for 13 more and will soon be getting home theater in basement as that's the next project once tank is done...

Let's close the door on this one....

Hippo I picked up from someone locally from our club that had outgrown 75. Three years in a healthy tank from trusted reefer so I did not QT him. He decided to jump right in cave with Kole Tang so I added rock/shelter for him to have his own place of refuge.

My hippo's took a liking to Zoa's once they hit 4"

It places little half circles in the acrylic so it's important to keep the pads parallel to the surface. You don't want a $1200 repair bill for fixing the scratches.

Gotcha. That's why I'm going to practice on sump/frag tank!

I'm scared to touch the tank!

Time for an update I guess so I don't look like I'm doing NOTHING.

First off got a Milwaukee PH Controller for the calcium reactor this weekend and a load of calibration fluids:

Next on the project list was re-enforcing the acrylic so I cannot be paranoid about any leaks! I ordered some 1" thick acrylic and am using 1"x2" bars along the front/sides/back to give the seams additional support/strength for longevity. Maybe overkill, maybe paranoia, but $100 in acrylic is worth not having a pin-sized hole start leaking one day!

Pieces cut and ready. Some sanding to flatten the surfaces, wipe down with alcohol, and then some weld on to secure in place.

That's it for tonight. I've got a headache from being in the 600 gallon cube with weld on fumes. I'll likely wrap up back side tomorrow night and then Friday I'll put a coat of Weldon #16 on all of it to add that extra bead of protection along the cracks.

Dustin, why were you worried about the bottom seams? I don't remember reading anything in this thread about there being damage to them. Isn't this a brand new tank (never seen water)?

Correct, it's "new" but been moved around a few times and had a couple water tests. I found a place that was of concern and is why I did this. I'll try to snap a picture later but with a 1"X2" slab all the way around just makes me feel better.
