A Reefaholic's 1000+ Gallon Mixed Reef System Build

Looking good! I was talking to Bill for a bit yesterday and your build came up...It's great to see someone on RC running his stuff on their large system. My setup won't be ready for a skimmer from him till at least the end of summer but I have seriously toyed around with the idea of going ahead with getting the skimmer from him just so I can sit around and look at it :-P My wife will think I'm nuts though since it will take up so much space :-P Can't wait to see your's up and running!

It's okay, my skimmer is currently sitting by the tree in my dining/living room as that was my present and I admire it daily. Once I knock the rest of this polishing out it's time to start plumbing. Hoping to put plumbing order in this week and going to Premium Aquatics Saturday to pick up an order so I can get some work done over holiday weekend.

Electrical Mayhem

Electrical Mayhem

Doing some research/planning on tank so I can order next round of parts as I've been out of commission past couple days sick...

That being said, anyone have a recommendation of somewhere that would have a regular/GFI double outlet as well as a double GFI outlet in gray?! I just spent an hour or so looking for some and cannot seem to find them. Someone that's a little more closer with the electrical world, do these exist? Brand is Carlon but I can't find anything outside of the double regular outlet ones I already have...

In need of covers...

Hey Dustin....how many orpheks do you think you will need for your tank?

Did you find a solution for those outlet covers? What if you used a std double gang receptacle cover and just cut the other opening square to match the GFI receptacle?

Sorry for the lack of updates. Based on the PAR readings and spread, likely will use 5 or 6 of them. I might start off with 5 and if that's not enough add another.

Problem is the regular receptacle is wider. I've thought of something similar but using blanks and routing out the holes.

Sorry for lack of updates lately but the holidays come/go, got sick, and this week is company kickoff for 2013 so not had any free time to spend home on the tank.

Over the weekend I wrapped up the polishing of the tank on Novus#2 but still have some swirl spots from it so going to pick up a dual stage polisher from fellow club member and use foam pads on the Novus #2 rather than the wool as they are a bit too abrasive for that last coat. I want those panels to look like water. Swirl marks are not visible straight on but if you hit it at right angel you can see them which will bother me longterm:)

Order of plumbing came in for the returns and overflow box last night, and currently talking to Paul Whitby about my closed loop design. As it stands now, I'll have three closed loops; 1) On overflow wall with 8 1/2" Lock-Lines, 2/3) Seperate closed loops under the sand rock with 1 1/4" pipe and 3/4" Lock-Line.

Each of these would be driven by ReeFlo Darts and I'll use the Apex to turn them on/off. I've spoke to ReeFlo and I'll be using the Gold Pumps and do not see any problems starting/stopping the loops. The way I'm designing it'll create a gyre effect so I keep water constantly changing. That combined with sea swirls and Vortechs I should be good!

Dustin had to read the whole thread from day 1 im in FW but from time to time i take a look in RC.
really nice the attention to detail.
Keep the hardwork.

Sounds like a plan Pres. D. How long do you plan on running each dart? Will it be alternating hour or hours or even minutes?

I've got to get my plans drawn up but have been really busy this past week. I'm thinking about something where I have 3 loops.

Details....

Loop 1: Overflow Box - 8 1/2" LockLines
Loop 2: Buried in sand on left half of tank pointing counter-clock wise
Loop 3: Buried in sand on right half of tank pointing clock wise

15 Minute Intervals:
Loop 1/Loop 2 - ON
Loop 1/Loop 3 - ON
Loop 1/Loop2/Loop 3 - ON

Repeat, repeat, repeat. At night I might just run the loops on constant rather than having them kick on/off. Maybe pictures will make better sense!?
