A Reefaholic's 1000+ Gallon Mixed Reef System Build

Just starting to do some work on the rockwork again, hopefully can make some good progress today and I'm leaving everyone hanging on pictures until it's pretty much done! I keep reworking things and about to notch out a couple inches on the PVC on the left side as I don't like the height and want to lose a couple inches so I have more room for corals on the platform to grow.

Well that's unfair!! Just make sure to take photos through the rock work build so people can see how you've done it!

You know that's what I'll do! I like posting pictures so others can learn from the process and from MY MISTAKES! This community has taught me a lot over the years and feel that I should give back with educational tutorials as much as possible so others can benefit. Now back to working....Just had fellow reefer stop by for a bit to pick up a 40B I never made use of from last year.

600 Gallon Reef --> R.I.P.

600 Gallon Reef --> R.I.P.

Throughout this build I've been struggling to keep my coral alive. Over the course of the past two weeks...I've come to the conclusion that reef keeping is just not my thing. :(

That being said, I've sold off all my rock and decided to make the tank a freshwater tank. I'll be doing something a bit more large scale than the following tank:

Long time nerd this idea has inspired me to create a Mario inspired tank with Neon Tetras being the centerpiece of the tank.

If anyone has any further suggestions on fish that'd be good and interactive in a FW tank please feel free to comment. I've had so many followers along this journey and decided even though it's not going to be the original reef tank I planned, it would still serve as a good journal to wrap up this build!

The problem is the Tetras life span is not long enough to really enjoy them.

I would recommend getting some red belly piranhas.

I would think that Waterdogs and Tiger Salamanders would look great under your LED's. Heck, you could turn your system into a live bait shop! LOL

I have 1st dibs on equipment!!!!!!!

My vote on scene:

On a more serious note, I got quite a bit rock work done over the weekend and will be working on it to wrap it up this week and will have a video shortly. Been a back breaking job and VERY time consuming but think I'll be really happy I took the time to put it together as I have. Last time I looked at the time lapse I had 4000+ pictures of me aquascaping so you'll see the whole process take place.

Friend from INDMAS sent me pictures last night of the progress of my cabinet for above the tank. It's coming along and should be done soon so I can post some pics of it complete as well as the tank aquascaped and FILLED.
