Having some caffeine....Then time to get on this. Hopefully have a couple helpers coming today! Maybe tonight I'll have all of it done?!? I definitely don't have any reasons to go outside, hopefully last snow storm of the year is blowing through...:facepalm:

I came across this thread earlier in the day and spent most of the day reading it, taking breaks in between I just finished reading the whole thread and I hit the cliffhanger on the last page and I shouted when is he going to be done !!! lol just kidding, great job on the tank dude I'm really impressed with the progress and your thought that went into all your equipment and choices, as well as the aquascape article, some great ideas you have giving me, I literally just became your biggest fan cant wait for your tank to be operational, quick question tho I must of missed somewhere are you doing fine sand or larger grit as well as are you doing dead/alive/seeding of the sand/grit
 
Sorry for the lack of updates all. I caught the flu and it hit me like a brick wall early Sunday afternoon and I've missed work yesterday/today. Once I get back in the swing of things I'll post some more pictures of the scaping. I managed to work on revising the closed loop/framing as I was not completely satisfied then had a couple hours to work on rock work. Hopefully tomorrow night I'll have my energy back and start getting the remaining rock in. This method is very time consuming but think I'll be really happy with it in the end.

As far as sand Chris, I'm going to be using Tropic Eden's Grand Select, it's a very coarse sand but I don't want a sand storm in my tank with that much flow. I've had fine sand in DTs in the past and it's more trouble than it's worth.
 
Hey Dustin my company is coming to Carmel IN this year, might give me a reason to get over there. If so I would love to swing by and look at your tank if you don't mind.
Probably 2nd-3rd quarter tho. I might try n slide over to premium aquatics to pick up a few pieces of live rock to seed my new tank I'm working on. Any experience w their live rock...

Hi Dustin, fantastic thread, its very inspiring- keep it up! I'm especially liking the method of aquascaping you are using. I'm in the process of selling my 160G right now as (funnily enough) I'm moving to Carmel later this year and its kind of a depressing seeing a perfectly good tank sitting there, empty in my living room - seeing your thread does nothing but irritate my itch to plan my next tank when I get over the mainland. Anyway just wanted to pass on my regards and wish you luck with your no less than epic project!
 
dont let the readers change the out come of the book. if it dosnt feel right dont do it. as for your rock.... do it slow ... do it right... and do it the way you want it. if it takes two days or it takes two years.... we will still be here. at the end of it all you have to live with it.. all he have to do is change the channel....

Thanks for the compliments and you'll have to join INDMAS once you make it here! I went dry for about a year during a moving process and was the most depressing time in the 8 years I've been into reefs!

Slow and steady wins the race! I've tried not to let anyone rush me along the process and I've got a strong focus on engineering that makes me worried more about doing things right rather than getting them done. I try to be methodical about everything I do with the system, everything is not exactly what I wanted and I've already got a long list of things I wish I would have done this way or that way. On my next system I build I'll likely work on designing and planning for a couple years before I start putting things together so I know every piece, have a full list of parts I need and could do in the course of a couple months. I'm not one to ask for help from my local club and honestly hate asking for help as I feel like it's a handout so I do most of it by myself at my own pace! Thanks for the words of encouragement and hope you're tagging along!
 
Just starting to do some work on the rockwork again, hopefully can make some good progress today and I'm leaving everyone hanging on pictures until it's pretty much done! I keep reworking things and about to notch out a couple inches on the PVC on the left side as I don't like the height and want to lose a couple inches so I have more room for corals on the platform to grow.
