I hope that I can get some specialist advise here!
Below are the owner's tank!
Please forgive the way of keeping a large group of angel fish in a bare bottom tank! I know that it is not the standard of keeping reef fish in US. But it is a popular way of keeping fish in Tai Wan. In fact, the owner advocate a lot in his tank!

It must be semi x ???? Hybrid
I have seen photos of this fish from a friend that live in Taiwan
Many Tanks in the far east use skimmers and wet/dry filtration. This is the best way for large population of fishes in a sparsly rocked tank. Water changes are usually much larger than is common in the states, and keeps nitrates down. Some of the most skilled fish keepers in the world are in this region- and the quality of the fish is second to none.
see semi...the tail makes me want to say emp but I also see six bar/blue face in the body and navarchus in her face.:hmm6::hmm5:
do you remember where was she caught?
You feel it is not humane-that does not mean it is not humane. That is an individual choice. I do not disagree with you, and have the most understocked tanks you will ever see. However, these fish are fat and healthy. If they were being treated poorly such would not be the case. Cultural differences are just that-and one is not proven better than the other. Not by fish health or length of life.
while this may be true....it still is pretty inhumane to keep that many fish in such small quarters. if you can afford some of the fish in that system then surely you can afford a bigger aquarium.
