A Splash of Color - My SPS Peninsula Reef

yes really Mike, I say we storm Gibbles's house and take everything hostage, including Kevin. What do you say? Now would be a perfect time as Nibbles is out watching the Australian open. So while he's watching a green ball being hit around we'll sneak in and "borrow" his painted sticks:lol:

Took a daytime pic of my browner just for you mate, oh the shame......... :)
I say "hats off to you sir". and have a  too.

I saw the hints of blue on tips the previous pic anyway...I have an eye for seeing stuff like that...thats how I get the cool acros that other people miss out. But just wanted to wind you up anyway.

So you've caught on using the name Nibbles...I'd be careful mate, Nibbles knows where you live...I live too far away and feel quite safe calling him Nibbles from here  But you my friend might get a crazy koala package at your door, or worse digested Koala food packaged sent in a package....:worried:

Biggles, how much Iodide/what brand did you need to add in your initial dose? What test number were you trying to achieve?

Haha yes I did Sahin and it's about time Biggles got nickname:thumbsup:. Haha lol don't worry mate as long as the koala brings sticks it's all good;). And he's got to get past the gumtrees in my front yard first before he gets to me, so we'll see how strong the urge to eat them is:hammer:

Wow Biggles - You really have a lot of fantastic looking pieces - I want to move to Australia!! I just don't see stuff like yours coming available in my part of the world. :inlove:

Biggles,
I just read the last 3 pages.
For your interest, try taking some aquarium water and add iodine to reach the desired concentration (or even 10 times higher than what You would like to have) and test that water with salifert kit.
Then let me know what's the result.

When I tried it, water sample remained crystal clear as if test was yet to be done, even with a ten times fold higher iodine.

Mr Biggles,

Are you still happy with your Deltec 1455? Has it been produced consistent skimmate and foam header your considering it is way oversized for your now old tank?

I am not happy with my BM NAC 6a and blame it for my persistent cyano trouble. It has been suggested to me that it it is either slightly oversized or the design is not optimal (air volume v neck size). I can get a foam head but it does not consistently overflow into the collection cup. I want to replace it. I considered your skimmer, but fear that I may experience similar problems.

Do you think Deltec 1350 would be a better proposition? My other alternative is the new Tunze 9012 surface skimmer.

Thanks mate.

Hey mate, yeah things got pretty hectic for a while as I got a job after finishing studying at tafe. I now have job in a pets and garden place and I'm loving it. They don't have marine stuff....... Yet;). My tank took a turn for the worse at about the same time and I'm still trying to pull it back on coarse, slowly things are getting better. I didn't have time to stop by and I thought it be best that I didn't look at tanks like yours or I might pbiawa!(pour bleach in and walk away) from frustration. But I gave myself a good talking to and now I'm champing at the bit to get things going

Hey Rory, congrats on joining the work force  I'll catch up with you on your journal asap to see where you're at with the tank mate.

That is a stunner! :eek2: Do you ship frags to Canada? ;)

Thanks mate, lol you know i would if i could ;)

Lol, if only wishes came true eh? It is indeed a stunner...

Biggles.... question for you regarding placement. In your current tank it looks like you have your aquascape setup quite low. How much distance would you estimate is between the top of your tallest acro and the bottom of your Radium bulb?

Hi mate, the 400W radium bulb is 10" off the water surface and the highest stag tip is 8" under the surface. The highest rock is the central arch right in the middle under the radium and it is 10" under the surface. The T5's are 4" and the LED's are 5" off the water. There are at least 12 acros colored up and growing in the bottom 4" of the tank so i know i have good coverage of the right spectrum throughout the display.

No kidding!

What is that, A Abrotanoides?

Good question Phil. I'll be curious to hear Biggles' answer. Looking at my setup last night, I'm worried my light may be too close to the corals given how I've laid things out presently.

I have no idea what my acros are the majority of the time mate lol. If you look at that peninsula filling pic you can see how the coral scape is basically all in the bottom half of the water column. Those that seek more PAR will go after it themselves and those that don't will go sideways to avoid it generally.

We haven't heard from Acronic in a while, now I know why.... you stole his box of crayons and are using them to color those acro's. :) In all seriousness, just beautiful corals sir, I really like the two with the light blue flesh and brightly colored tips.

Thanks very much mate, light flesh with contrasting polyps and tips is my thanggggggggg. :)

Really???Reaaaalllllyyyy:headwally:

Lol Mike, here's a gratuitous pic of it just for you :p The SSC is looking less annoyingly green lately......

Gibbles, Nibbles.................another one who's gonna play with the cat till it scratches.........:angryfire:

Bit late to warn him after you stirred him up Sahin, you and Rory would both get the box treatment if i had my way............:smokin:

Biggles, how much Iodide/what brand did you need to add in your initial dose? What test number were you trying to achieve?

It's Continuum aquatics reef basis iodide - potassium iodide. I chose it because it had the prettiest picture on the bottle out of all the ones Jack showed me.
The bottle said to add 1ml per 10gal twice weekly to maintain .04-.05 and i have close to 70 gal of water all up i think so 14ml a week is supposed to be the dose - yeah right. I halved that and add 1ml a day in the alk drip. I am not trying to do anything more than ensure the iodide is not bottoming out and becoming a limiting factor in any way but at this stage i'm still experimenting. Just detectable would be ideal imo.

Wow Biggles - You really have a lot of fantastic looking pieces - I want to move to Australia!! I just don't see stuff like yours coming available in my part of the world. :inlove:

Thanks Greg, i actually think we aus reefers owe the fantastic quality of acros being collected to the overseas (US) trade requiring higher quality SPS to be collected. Most goes overseas for big dollars but we still see bits and pieces that miss the plane lol.

Same here in the UK...Biggles takes all the nice SPS.

I do my best to snatch all the pretty ones......;)

Wowsers biggles those pieces are absolutely awesome!!!!!

Thanks Scotty, i have a few bobby dazzlers now mate lol.

I'm rethinking my scape ideas now the peninsula is in place and i can see it for real.

Thanks mate, it feels good to be earning some money (now I can spend more on my tank). You inspire me biggles, you really do. Seeing pics like that motivate me to achieve something like that someday:beer:
Gibbles, Nibbles.................another one who's gonna play with the cat till it scratches........
Haha lol, no I doubt I'll use those again mate......Biggles is already a great nickname:love1:

That other pic played a trick on my eyes. I see you haven't transferred over everything yet. Good luck! All my corals are in holding bins at the moment. I'm hopefully moving everything into my new setup today or tomorrow. I'm definitely nervous
